moving

My parents are moving to the other end of the country. Definitely. I don't want to go. I don't want to lose my room or home. If we move then it won't be my home anymore. It's just somewhere I'll go to stay during the holidays. Mum and Dad's house. I won't spend enough time there for it to feel like home. I've known my home town all my life. I don't want to move to the other end of the country. I've been told I've got to get rid of some of my stuff as I can't take it all with us. Mum's going to sort through some stuff over the next few weeks. I don't want to get rid of anything. I don't want mum to go through my stuff. It'll probably be next June or July but they want to get the house on the market as soon as possible. They showed my pictures of new houses. I'll admit they look lovely but I don't want to move. I know I don't really have much left in my home town anymore but I don't want to lose my room. I won't be able to visit my friend's grave either. And it'll be a long way from my 3 best friends. I guess I'll have to ask whether I can stay with them occasionally. I just really don't want to move. It won't be changing homes, it'll be losing one.

Moving is always difficult unless you're escaping a difficult situation, but you will adapt to the change of location and there may well be advantages to where you move to. You can always visit where you're living now once you've moved and you will make new friends.
Take pictures of your room as it is now and remember, you'll never lose the memories you have of it wherever you go.

Hey,

I don't have a whole lot of useful things to say, but I wanted to let you know I understand. My parents moved just after I started uni, from the North of Scotland to the South of England, and yeah, it really does suck. I definitely understand how you're feeling, and it is going to be painful, there's nothing anyone can say to change that.

But having said that, as there's nothing you can do to change it, do try to focus on some of the positives. There will be some. For me, it hasn't been brilliant, but there have been some good bits, it's definitely not all bad. It's a new place to explore, there are interesting things to see. Getting to know the area a bit is actually quite fun. There will probably be things that you can get involved in, get to know people, etc. I know you don't want to lose your room, but presumably you'll have a new room, and spending time making it how you want it to be is good, and it'll make it feel more like home. You don't have to lose your old home entirely, I'm sure you'll be able to go back and visit. I'm sure your friends would be more than happy for you to go visit them; ask them about it, and make sure to keep in touch with them.

I know it's hard. But try not to be too negative about it, it might not be as bad as you think. Take care, I hope things go well xx

I'm sorry you're having to move house. Moving, and change in general can be really tough to deal with. It feels like the end of an era - but remember, it can also be the beginning of another great one! As has been said, keep the memories, they're important, but you will have chance to make other, equally good ones.

Take care xxx
