Home learning?

Sorry if this has been posted but has anyone got any experience with any Home learning places? I really want to do something and I know a lot of people doing OU but has anyone any experience of anyone ele? I have read so much good and bad about them all that my head is aching

I don't know anything about this, but I'd really like to find out more as well. It seems to be really confusing for the beginner!

I am doing my masters with the OU and it is good but it is intensive workwise.
You will have to be dedicated with your time but if you utilise your time wisely and do something that interest you it is worth it.

It might be an idea to do a random course to start off with just to find out how things work and what it's like.

Thank you for that! I have signed up with OU for the Understanding Autistic Spectrum Disorder, thought it would get me back into studying :)

have studied loads through OU at different levels and just for fun - love their courses, they really are experts at helping you learn remotely - so sorry, don't know of any others but I'd say go for it with OU!

Do you have to pay to do a course with OU? I'd love to do something like that but can't afford the fee's.

I have done home learning with the home learning college. Payments aren't to bad. What they don't actually tell you is, the only way to cancel the direct debit is if you do it within the first 2 weeks.

I never got told this, and just assumed ... (yes I was stupid). For the first couple of months I loved it, but then the tutors seemed to be marking my work different and things my marks were varied from each tutor. After deciding to go to Uni I decided I wanted to quit the direct debit which for someone on JSA is quite a lot. They are refusing to do so and if I stop paying, my credit rating is ruined.

Definitely pick a course you will enjoy. Go for a cheaper one... if there are cheaper and more expensive. See if you like the way its taught. And read the small print on the contract ! :p

I done a course with 'home learning college' aswell. I think it was ridiculously expensive for what it was the course took me 6 weeks in total and it costed me £365 and it wasn't even like an Alevel or GCSE.

im about to start a psyche diploma through oxfordcollege.ac they are cheaper than ou, can start anytime. just make sure you do the accredited course so its proper and recognised for futre use

The OU has fee reductions if you're on benefits (or they used to) so you don't pay the full amount. They also have bursaries to encourage people with additional difficulties, depending on your condition you may be able to apply for them as well.

They were also really good about accommodating your specific difficulties with assignments, exams etc - I had a separate room for exams because of anxiety.

If there's a course you're interested in I'd talk to them about what help (financial and other) they can offer.
