I'm being brave, and growing out the hair dye.
Brave, because there is lots of white hair coming through.
I have mid-brown hair naturally, but I've been dying it dark brown for the past several years, and varying shades of brown several years before that.
But now I'm growing all the dye out. Keeping my hair the same length, pretty much though.
I'm 40 next March, and need to accept my age more. Having my hair it's natural colour is part of that, albeit a bit of a shock to the system to begin with.
I don't know whether I'll keep it up, or whether I'll give in and dye it dark again.
So I'm just posting this for some support in the process really. I don't suppose many of you are old enough to be having this experience yet - white/greying hair. [Why does it always bypass grey and go white straight off?!] But if anyone has, let me know how it was for you.
me and my mom are doing the same thing, she's sick of dying it and is letting the grey come through. She's been dying her hair since she was mid twenties and now is sick of it, it's become a real burden, and so many people now let their hair be grey and don't bother to dye it.
I just got bored of dying it (I'm 23 and have dyed it for about 4 years so not that longlol) and am letting my natural blonde come through. My mom has researched online and can't seem to find a grey hair dye which is annoying for her as she usually dyes it light brown but I guess you just have to wait for it to grow out or have it cut really short in which case you'd have to let it grow to the length you want anyway.

you could try having highlights put through until the brown grows out, keep going a shade or two lighter each time, blonde blends more with grey/white.
my mum has white hair and in my opinion white hair is gorgeous, sort of magical whereas grey just reminds me of granny parade, smokers who wear rain hoods and play bingo all day every day!
there's something beautiful about the old lady with bum-length white hair, soft and straight, or naturally wavy. hopefulyl that'll be you in 40years time.

A friend of mine is in her late 30's and she's dyed her hair since she was a a teenager/ in her early 20s I think. It subtly changes colour every so often but often in between she leaves it too long (or at least was doing at one bit) and she has a large amount of grey hair. I used to tease her because of it in a friendly type way. I reckon if it grew out completely she'd have more grey hairs than white but that's just how she is; she started going grey at 17 and though she doesn't particularly like it and it's the main reason she des her hair, everyone that has noticed her roots coming through or whatever has been nice about it or didn't particularly notice. It's nothing to be ashamed of and really the colour of your hair makes no difference to who you are as a person or your personality so if I were you I'd try not to worry about it, your personality/ how you are as a person is what makes you who you are and the colour of your hair doesn't change that

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.

matt started going grey in his teens due to the stress of abuse and debt etc, i think you'll find on here that it's quite common to go grey earlier because of the extra stress depression etc puts on us.

If I had it highlighted I'd be back at the beginning on the growing out front! It's already grown out by a couple of inches or so. It doesn't notice that much unless you look really closely. There's still some brown coming through, just patches of where there's a lot of white - like just above my ears, which of course only shows when I tuck my hair behind my ears! And the annoying shorter completely white ones that sprout up around my parting...
Thankfully even permanent dyes never stay completely permanent with me, as I wash my hair every day, so the extra whiteness doesn't notice much to others, but it does to me who gets a closer view than anyone else!
My mum started going grey when she was 21 apparently, so this is to be expected really.
