I had the same problem. When I was admitted in a psychiatric hospital I got treated ,but I guess this would be a bit too extreme. For me the meds were the best choise, you should speak with your GP.He'll tell you the best options, there are a lot.

No, marijuana isn't prescribed for those things as far as I know and even if it was, you complained about side effects - well pot isn't super healthy for you either.
What are you stressed about?
Have you tried writing / typing down all your stresses and worries at night to off load them?
Developing a relaxing wind down routine might be a good idea too. I understand you not wanting to resort to tablets or alcohol but I'm not too keen on you using the term 'mental patient' about people who take tablets. Just because someone takes psychiatric medication doesn't mean they have a bad reputation by any stretch of the imagination.

You're not a mental patient if you take medication, you're a person who struggles and needs help - and at least admits that, and wants it.
If you have trouble sleeping, go to your doctor and tell them. But medication isn't the only solution available, other solutions are too.

I know that in some places in the world you can be prescribed marijuana, but I don't know what it is prescribed for and in most places it is just illegal. If you live in a place where these prescriptions are possible then maybe, but it'd be completely down to the doctor you see. To be honest though, you shouldn't give up on what you're currently being given on the grounds that it makes you "feel like a mental patient" since a prescription is still a prescription and will only be given to you if you are deemed to be in need of it, no matter what it is you are given. On the other hand, meds aren't the only way to deal with things either, they should never be seen as a solution, but as a form of assistance.
