Actually I think it would be more of a YouTube playlist. The link to which could be in the banner of the site, just like the link to the shop. Clicking it would open a new tab or window and we select the tracks we want to listen and they play on a loop until we press stop.
Natually only uplifting and inspiring songs would be on the list. We all like to listen to music to help us feel better, why not have them readily available at RYL?
The idea came from work. At Boots we have music playing all day. Customers come in and hear a track or two and leave. We staff have to hear the same dozen tracks endlessly. Before it faded into background noise I started to notice some of the lyrics and thought; 'That's actually quite nice. Very upbeat.'
Then the other day the idea for Radio RYL came to me. This is the first chance I had to put the idea out there to see what others think.
Some of the tracks they play at work that I think would be appropriate are:
Natasha Beddginfield -
Unwritten
Happy
U2
Beautiful Day
Mika
We are Golden
Love Today
Grace Kelly
Big Girl
Girls Aloud -
Untouchable
Take That -
Shine
Rule the world
Up all night
Noisettes -
Go baby go
Taylor Swift -
Love story
Coldplay -
Speed of sound
Lisa Mitchell -
Neopolitan Dreams
I'm sure a lot of you could have a lot of other tracks in mind that you would like to add. But that could be discussed at another time. Right now I'm just putting the idea out there and seeing what people think of the idea.
So what do you think? Radio RYL?

However, youtube playlists we didnt think off and would by pass needing a license.
Glad to be able to add new ideas. That seems to be a talent of mine; always adding some new twist others haven't thought of before. The majority of people are always surprised that no one else thought of it before.

If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

I remember when the Ezine first came about (So I'm talking a long while back) there were talks of an RYL radio but I think it was like making the ezine as podcasts.

I think having a mixture of songs would be best though, but avoid major triggering lyrics..... x
That's what I meant when I said 'uplifting or inspiring songs' nothing dark with potentially triggering lyrics, or mood spoiling tunes. No Marilyn Manson for example.

I find dark music up lifting my mood is generally better after listening to heavy metal including MM. My mood will drop if i listen to what you have listed up there.
Don't walk behine me I might got you lost!
Don't walk in front of me I may not follow you!
Don't walk beside me the path is to small!
All we can do is walk our own paths, remember your not alone because we are all walking our own paths together!
i'm sure we already had something like this discussed a year or two ago.
i like the idea in theory but music-wise i don't like the choices at all. i don't even like that the songs have to be happy. seems very cheesey / patronising.

I know karmajunkie who was thinking of doing radio once but that was in 04 - 05. It was more of a headache than originally thought since royalties went up at the time.

A little Amon Amarth never hurt anyone :) In fact it somewhat inspiring!
Well the tracks I listed were only suggestions. They're what I have to listen to at work all week. it's the lyrics more than the songs and the people who sing them (I dislike Mika - a lot) I thought were appropriate.

Yeah, near as I can figure, from what Daemon said, it was going to be like a podcast but the cost of the license and the royalties were too high.
I never even thought of doing a podcast. A youtube playlist was always on my mind. They're free and the problems they've had over popular music have been cleared up recently.

If it were to be done, as opposed to having purely uplifting music, couldn't you have multiple play-lists for different moods. Because sometimes songs that reflect how you are feeling can help you connect with that, so sad songs can be just as important as up-beat ones. Personally when I'm feeling really low happy music just get's on my nerves, I despair that I'll ever relate to the lyrics and I just end up irritable.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to legally do this? I know it would be hard work but RYL has been good at fundraising in the past and it would give people all over the place something constructive to focus their time and energy on-raising money for this. Just putting my two pennies worth in :)

I'm just an ideas man. I say things like "Hey lets set up YouTube playlists and call it Radio RYL"
But I need to throw myself to the skills of others to get it done.
also: has anyone got any other ideas what songs could be on the lists? try and make them better than my suggestions. (they could hardly be worse LOL)
