I want to stop my meds completely, like without slowly coming off them, which are a small amount of risperidone and 40mg fluoxetine. How long before the symptoms of depression could come back? And how much of a bad idea do you think my team would think of this?
I'm not sure about risperidone but I was on fluoxitine and came off it quite suddenly. It didn't do me any real harm but I wish I had come off them properly partly cause I started worring that something bad was going to happen.
I would do as your doctor says and come off them slowly.
Unlike other medications, the time to step down from Prozac isn't based on half-life, it's based on anecdotal evidence. In other words, people's experiences. Now, if you start to experience SSRI discontinuation syndrome once you're down around 30-40mg a day, then you will have to look at reducing your dosage by 10mg a day every month.
However, that is from a higher dose, so coming down from 40 mg would probably be quite a bit easier.
Overall though, tapering off the meds is better by far, talk to your doctor.

Everyone's crazy; some people just hide it better. I am not one of those people.
Eep, not good at all. I remember my friend stopped taking her risperadone cold turkey and was a right state, and you're on a highish dose of prozac too, it'll be very painful and will probably make you quite ill. I went cold turkey on my meds, and lasted two days before I succumbed and started taking them again, the withdrawal was utter hell. I know taking meds suck, but it's better to talk to your Doctor and maybe work through some reasons to take them than do something dangerous like this.
talk to your doc because if you just stop you risk need them again or worse, so if you come off slowly it may take a while but when you're finally off you'll know your off for good! This comes for complete personal events! GOOD LUCK!!

IM SICK OF TRYING, TIRED OF CRYING,YEAH IM SMILING, BUT INSIDE IM DYING!
ummmm....if you do that, its gonna suck. Med withdrawals are NOT fun. At their worst, you'll be puking, shaking, sweating and possibly hallucinating. And if you go off it cold turkey and don't start on anything else, your symptoms will probably come back almost immediately, and they will most likely be worse than before. At least that's what happened to me. I would seriously not suggest it.
I'll keep your memory vague, so you won't feel bad about me...I'll say the things that you said sometimes so it reminds me. -Finger 11
I am going to have to agree with what everyone else has said, that you really need to be in contact with your doctor hen coming off of a medication. And stopping anything controlled can be damaging to your body not to mention the withdrawals will be unbelievably unbearable. I have had experience with sudden drug stop and it is on the list of one of the worst times in my life. So please, consult with your doctor while doing this, it will be for the better.
