Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats

Dogs will tilt their heads and try to understand every word you say. Cats will ignore you and take a nap. Cats look silly on a leash.

When you come home from work, your dog will be happy and lick your face. Cats will still be mad at you for leaving in the first place.

Dogs will give you unconditional love until the day they die. Cats will make you pay for every mistake you've ever made since the day you were born.

A dog knows when you're sad. And he'll try to comfort you. Cats don't care how you feel, as long as you remember where the can opener is.

Dogs will bring you your slippers. Cats will drop a dead mouse in your slippers.

When you take them for a ride, dogs will sit on the seat next to you. Cats have to have their own private basket, or they won't go at all.

Dogs will come when you call them. And they'll be happy. Cats will have someone take a message and get back to you.

Dogs will play fetch with you all day long. The only thing cats will play with all day long are small rodents or bugs, preferably ones that look like they're in pain.

Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door.

I love dogs and hate cats, but my boyfriend and his family had a cat who was amazing though, did all the things a dog does, used to come for walks with us when we were walking the dogs and used to go across the road to the park and walk with other people who were walking their dogs and was just awesome, then he was really sadly hit by a car 2 weeks ago when he was coming across the road when Richards mum came home, he ran to the house for help but died outside the door :( it was tragic.

I have two very awesome cats who do most things a dog does! But they're independent as well which I like!

I like 'em both!

My cats always care how someone is feeling. If someone starts crying then they are there trying to comfort the person.

I .. can't pick.
Some dogs scare me, but i'm not used to pets really at all. Cats leave you alone more.
But i want a dog when I'm older so i guess i prefer them.. i like how they're around and you can walk them/cuddle them etc :)

There will always be a happy ending. If its not happy then its not yet the end.

Cats are much better, I love mine << yeah I can be a bit scared of dogs too, but my brother, sister and boyfriend all have two dogs ow so I've had to get used to them. Cats are great though cos they don't need looking after, just fed. Mine can be so annoying when he wants to go out though, he bangs the mat at the front door until someone lets himm out, but half the time he'll just go into the kitchen looking for food instead. He'll do this all night, getting you out of bed several times until he decides to go out. Still love him though.

I used to love dogs, then my dog that was born around the same time I was she was 14 (same age as me)when we had to put her down and after that I refused to have another dog.
my cat used to high-five you when she wanted to come up on the couch/bed and cuddle.
I want a siberean husky puppy when I move ou though, those are gorgeous dogs.

I prefer cats but if you want comfort get a dog

I love cats and dogs. Prefer cats though. Have to say that as Rocky is sitting next to me on sofa! heheh
Rocky comes when I call him esp when I'm just in door. More so when I'm shaking his treat tub!
Rocky may not bring my slippers but he does try, well I find them moved!

Cats win for me.

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

I don't want to stir any controversy about field (blood) sports in this discussion. If people want a pet as a companion, or as something they can empathise with for a cuddle, good luck to them - and either cat or dog may well suffice. I don't knock that sort of relationship for a moment - animal gets fed/nurtured and human derives the support he/she is looking for.

But, in my personal view, the oldest and most fundamental and complete relationship between animal and man is that between man and dog in the "hunting" field. Dogs are pack animals and they readily accept the leadership of their owner as the alpha male/female in the relationship. Dogs are of course hunting animals, by nature, and every time they go out for a walk with their owners they are actually on the hunt with their owners as their leader (read Jan Fennel's book "The Dog Whisperer" - a brilliant summary).

So, whatever your views about the cruelty of the hunting process in general terms (and almost everything eats something down the pecking order - just watch David Attenborough's stuff) there is no doubt in my view that the very best and most fundamental relationship between man and animal is that which exists between man and dog when hunting. I've attended pheasant shoots as a "picker-up" standing behind the line of guns (whose consciences are their own business) and derived huge pleasure from working my dog collecting the birds shot - and the dog is in her absolute element and simply wouldn't wish to be doing anything else.

Please don't anyone be offended by the "hunting" element in this post - it is not intended to make any sort of case pro or con. But I remain totally convinced that, for me, dogs are much the better of the two pets because they are closer to man by far in fundamental (and primeval) terms.

Oh, and I can go "aah" with the best of them when I watch the New Zealander romping with his lions and tigers on Sky TV - heartwarming stuff. And there was that fellow in Vegas who had about 60 tigers roaming around in his house as pets, apparently with no trouble. Though the smell of cat urine must have been horrendous! But one of the NZ keepers got eaten by one of the tigers, as did a couple of John Aspinall's keepers at his private zoo in Kent. Of course full-size tigers are not to be compared with a kitten on your knee - and thank God for it!

Tony (with his claws retracted).

Never surrender.
