I have decided...

That I want to do something really different with my life.

I've felt for ages that I want to be an Art Teacher, at the end of my education, but now I'm feeling a little bit too comfortable. Art is like my bubble of safety and I'd never really be pushing myself very much. So now, I want to do something really obscure.

Like...cake decorating, or ice-sculpting, or something really random like that, where I'll be doing something I love (arts and crafts) but getting out in the world and pushing my boundaries a bit...

So, you lovely people, suggest away!

What do you think? Is there anything really mad and crazy that you'd like to do as a career path, one day?

:)

Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.

I wish I could do something creative as a career one day, it makes me regret dropping all my arts subjects once I left secondary school, but then I don't think I've ever been above average in art anyway.

I'd love to just own my own little shop one day in a surf town, I'd just sell customised clothes and handmade jewellry, make up and demos from local bands, trinkets and art prints and wierd things.
What would be perfect is if it was like on the 2nd floor of a nice building with a basement, and I'd hold band nights and alt. club nights on the first and basement floors.

That would be cool.

Cake Decorating is fun!! I did a short course in it and had a blast. It's difficult at first, but then it comes like second nature.

That's like...stuff of my dreams, in a way :)

I'm unsure of what to do at the moment, I just want to...grow, from what I am now, I guess. Take a chance and do something different =]

Yeah? :)

It sounds and looks like a lot of fun, and a bit challenging.

I think I watch too much Ace of Cakes xD

We posted at the same time, about the same programme :')
*high fives*

I'm not that great of a baker. I can make the basics pretty okay, but its the actual designing and decorating that interests me, I think. And Duff is the coolest person ever xD

Haha, don't apologise, I only really made the thread so I could talk to people, and get some nice arty/creative chat going along the way :)

I did watch tonights, yes ^_^
Jeff's so cool! In an 'I don't even need to try' kind of way =]
Mary-Alice is amazing, she makes me giggle.
Duff would be the kind of person that I would love to have as an uncle as a child, even if his facial hair does run a little wild sometimes xD

I think you'd find that ice sculpting or clay sculpting or cake decorating or glassblowing or any of those things would be more fulfilling than being an art teacher, because you could really explore your own talents rather than just teaching the same old things to each batch of students every year (of course, i never liked the idea of being a teacher, but it could be fulfilling to you if you like helping people, and might provide better job security). You could still create art in your free time anyway. You could do screen printing; it's kinda cool to see your artwork put on shirts and posters and whatnot. You could also try metal casting; i've dabbled in that a bit too and it's really neat to see your work in metal. It's like, more permanent and impressive to people. And there's fire and molten glowing metal and stuff, it's awesome. XD

I've gone from wanting to be a physicist to a geologist to an artist and to getting into forensics (that's sort of a crazy variety of things), but i haven't done any of it except for the art thing (i own a screen printing business). I don't know if that's going to be a permanent career for me though. Basically i can't decide on anything. I think you're lucky that you at least know which general direction you want to go in. Good luck!

Maybe look at some courses around where you live? I'm sure you'll find something weird and wonderful that you can do. When I'm up there, I can help you look! =D

That's exactly what's been going through my head, I just didn't know how to explain it :)

I did the basics in screen printing for GCSE Textiles, and it was really cool :) I'm just a bit tired of staying in my comfortable drawing/painting zone, I want to branch out and see how far I can push myself ^_^

And yeah, there's a load of open days in the next week or so around my area, as well as evening courses and stuff starting at the end of September, I'm gonna go and get some information when I can :) We shall find something suitably crazy <3
