im looking for someone who is diagnosed or has the same symptoms, i have never met anyone like me, and i wanted to talk to someone and see how they handle it. because i am not handling it very well.
its basically a mood disorder plus psychosis. you would have depression and manic episodes, and delusions and hallucinations. paranoia and anxiety fits into it as well.
I hope it doesn't sound bad when I say I'm glad to see this thread. I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder for eight years. Was there something particular you wanted to talk about?
Feel free to message me
x
barren gusto, it wont let me pm you for some reason (im new to this) i just wanted to know if you knew meds that worked better than others. and if you hear voices, how you handle them.
Oh sorry, I forgot that i didn't have PM's activated, have changed that now. The most effective mood stabilizer I've taken is Carbemazapine, Risperidone is the best anti psychotic in my opinion and Mirtazapine is the the best anti depressant but that's just what has worked for me. Anti psychotic medication has been the only thing to effectively make the voices go away.
Talking to people on the phone can work to make the voices less overbearing as can listening to music and being physically active. Distractions really, rather things that actually make them disappear.
Hi. I've been diagnosed with bipolar 2 with psychosis, but my psychiatrist said it could turn into schizoaffective disorder as I get older. So, feel free to pm me anytime. (:
My Father has it. He and his Dr describes it like manic depression and schizophrenia mixed.
He is on anti psychotics that are helping with this voices and halucinations. He has great support and despite some bad times he does has a good life.
He is 60 now. Was always mentally unwell but didn't get Schizoaffective disorder diagnosed until about 8 ish years ago. So he wasn't best treated before that.
To have treatment for this as early as you have is great. He has had a good life and manages well with support and a great wife (my step Mum).
He doesn't let it slow him down in life. It's his age that done that! lol
I want to kiss the bottom of the ocean before I burst through its surface into the sunlight, otherwise I will always be wondering about what was left unseen at the bottom
i'm tired of chasing my dreams. i'm just gonna ask where they're going, and hook up with them later.
i have this along with PTSD DID ANOREXIA PANIORED SCIZOPHENIA PYSCOIS and more but they are main issues that impact me alot im currently in a unit been here for 7months and its just starting to become helpful and im now starting to talk in groups still mainly on 121 helps me more tho get support take care x
^ you have schizophrenia as well as schizoaffective? That's interesting as they both more than overlap one another.
In fact psychosis is a part of schizophrenia too *confused*
there are a few forms of psycosis and some people fit into a few of the different catagories. often with one you end up having another which sucks meds can be a great help along with therapy to help the underlying issues.
Hmm, personally I don't see how you can have so many official diagnoses.
I've also never heard of someone having more than one type of psychosis, without it coming under a specific diagnosis which covers many forms such as Undifferentiated Schizophrenia.
Although of course a diagnosis can change, I was diagnosed with psychotif features, then it was changde to psychotic episode, thenit was changed again to schizoaffective disorder, and now all of those have been ruled out.

Maybe you misunderstood, maybe they are not official diagnoses.
From the ICD 10
Schizoaffective disorders Episodic disorders in which both affective and schizophrenic symptoms are prominent but which do not justify a diagnosis of either schizophrenia or depressive or manic episodes. Other conditions in which affective symptoms are superimposed on a pre-existing schizophrenic illness, or co-exist or alternate with persistent delusional disorders of other kinds, are classified under F20-F29. Mood-incongruent psychotic symptoms in affective disorders do not justify a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorderhttp://apps.who.int/classifications/...d/icd10online/
And, whilst this isn't relevant to the thread starter, these lists of diagnoses are frankly ridiculous. It's not a competition. You are more than just a diagnosis/list of diagnoses.
fallen rain i am not in a competiton i dont want this **** do you think i enjoy having to be in hosptial and dosed up with meds? there no need to be rude you know nothing about me
And in that post alone you're acting like being in hospital etc gives you some sort of superiority, which is doesn't. And to reirterate: you know nothing about me either.
it was suggested i have this by a phycritrist i had and he said its like a mixture of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. so i was put on a mood stabalizer and an anti-psychotic! although i dont think it was an official diagnosis. the meds have really helped with the vocies i was and sometimes still do experience although i still get mood swings. therapy is helping me through the downs of my moods a lot though. so i think its managable although i say again i dont know if i actually have it! i have neevr been offically diagnosed with anything
