I was wondering if anyone is 'stuck' with this like I am. I'd love to hear some experiences and personal stories of the good and bad kind...Information seems kind of thin on the problem.
I'm really tired of being called an insomniac. I sleep...just four hours later than most people do. I'm really sweating college come this fall.
I have never been able to sleep before midnight for as long as I can remember. If I force myself to go to bed at, say, 10pm, I just wake up again within about four hours. If I sleep at about 4am, which is normal for me, I can have exactly eight hours uninterrupted sleep and wake up feeling alert. I also sleep for precisely eight hours each night or I feel rubbish all day.
My sleep pattern is messy at the moment and I'm trying to re-order it, but the fact is I'll never be happy to be awake around the hours of 9-11am.
Same for me.
I've recently tried melatonin again (altho it takes alot) and something else meant to cause drowsiness as a side effect, it has worked for the past two nights.
Im only about 3 hours 'off' now..so better.
I hate being told,'well at least you are sleeping'
Do you have the waking every 1 1/2 - 2 hours as well? This drives me nuts!
Maybe try the melatonin. There is also valerian root, but it did upset my stomach so i never tried it again (chk with a doc/pharmacist first if you can take them tho).
Have you ever mentioned it to a doc? Perhaps they can help?
(ps ween, hope you get soemthing to help you, too)
I'm currently hoping melatonin will work, but I'm hesitant to start any kind of drugs because the semester is starting up and I'd like to get settled in my classes and routine before I commit to anything. Granted, the 4 am - 1 pm sleep schedule isn't going to be easy to tackle for the first few weeks.
I'm just going to have to be patient until I feel comfortable.
Aside from the obvious problems, I miss waking up in the morning and how pretty it can be. :( Also, the wonderful bag-eyed effect just acts as a permenent reminder of a schedule once uninhibited, albeit, a funny one in comparison to all the other nasty side-effects and health worries of DSPS...
Hope the melatonin works for you.
I tried the lower doses for over a year, and finally saw a friends doc (homeopathic) who suggested trying a higher dose,(he was on 750 mg and sleeping better than ever) it worked...but only for awhile. Then it goes screwy again.
Anywyas, good luck with it!
I've not spoken to any professionals about DSPS, but it has been mentioned to me as a possibility on here before, so I've looked into it, and I must admit, it does sound like me.
I tend to go to sleep at about seven am, and don't get up until somewhere between five-seven pm, usually closer to seven. Although right now, I'd rather not get it sorted out, as a number of my friends are (almost) as nocturnal as I am XD
why didnt she believe you? thats...odd. perhaps see someone else?
am so sick of this 7AM-1PM, but not even steady, i guess wouldnt be bad if i could sleep thru for that time, but i dont. ...so tired and messed up.
might try the valerian root again.....
she asked me about "this little article" i saw and i explained it was on a forum in the mental health bit and she was very patronising and stick me on more antidepressants, i'm going back next week to get a second opinion, i hate being on pills, my problem is that i see sleep as a waste of time, im on around 7:30am - 2pm
what am i sposed to do
when the best part of me
