Triggering (SI) - Cleaning stuffed animals

I have no idea if I should put this here or not. Anyway, I have a stuffed animal who I take pretty much everywhere with me. He is called DBD. Next week I'm to go into psych hospital and have been told today I can take DBD with me.

However, he has got some blood on him. I'm a bit stuck as to how to get it off. I don't want to put him in a washing machine because I don't want him to drown. I tried wiping him but it didn't come off.

It's taken a lot for me to ask this question. I appreciate some help.

x

You know the vanish oxy powder stuff? You can mix a small amount of that with water and just apply it to the area, normally takes blood out of things effectively.

Hey chick,

I don't think there is anything to laugh at all. When I make my bed, or go to sleep, my cuddlies have to be all tucked in, but able to breath. When I have to wash mine, and on the odd occassion they've had to go in the washing machine; I panic for the whole time they are in there and can't wait for them to come out! I worry they can't breathe..... =/

So no laughing from me either; and I don't think anyone would laugh. x

I'm not sure what to suggest because it can differ on materials and what sort of cuddly he is too. Do you think you could ask your mum what would work? Does he have any tags or labels on him that suggest a way of washing him? Depending on the stuffing, you could hand wash him - then it'd just be like giving him a bath and he'd be with you while he was having it? It does depend on the fabric and the material inside of him though.

Love me. xxxxx

Some can go lumpy if you wash them. Try putting some warm (not hot) water on a flannel and mixing it with some washing powder and applying that. I've heard salt can work as well because it's abrasive. I used the washing powder method to get a bloodstain out of something before, and it doesn't risk changing the colour like bleach-based stain removers.

He is actually one of those animals you are supposed to put in a microwave and heat (so I think he contains wheat), but I couldn't bear to do that and instead he has become like a toy. The tag says how long to cook him for (!). I know the instructions did say he could be washed in a machine but I don't want to do that.

Ooh if he's a wheaty you could put him in the washing machine just fine. However, if you're not inclined to do that, you can let him have a swim in the bath with some washing powder.

I used hydrogen peroxyde to get blood out of my blanky and pjs one time. It worked really well. It'll bubble up, kinda cool. Just be careful :)
And I hated putting my stuffies in the laundry. I'd hide them so my mom wouldn't wash them. Also, in backpacks they'd need an air hole!

Thanks for the suggestions guys!!! (I avoided the dreaded washing machine - thanks you your suggestions, I'm very glad I asked here now ).

I've not had DBD very long, I've others I've had for most of my 30 odd years, but he is the most understanding of my mental health problems.

I do this :) However, to make sure mine (he is 27 years old) dries out without smelling musty, I put him on a radiator and turn the heating on. At this time of the year, you could peg him out on the line or sit him out on some patio furniture.
