General Medical Question - Non Urgent - "Hard" vein

Hi

I was in hospital last week due to a GI bleed and had cannulas inserted into one of my hands and one of my wrists. The one in my hand didn't even bruise but the one in my wrist was really bruised and even though it is a week since it was taken out, the vein going up from the insertion point feels hard/solid. I haven't had this happen before from them and was wondering if it was normal and how long it will take to feel normal again.

Thanks

This can usually happen in sensitive area's such as the wrist where alot of movement is when the tube is in the wrist, because its a foreign body in your wrist it will cause some veign irritation of some kind so when it was removed it will slowly be recovering from it.
Its been 2 weeks since i had one in the top of my arm toward my neck and its still really hard, but i gathered an infection while i had the canyla in. Just keep an eye on it, and if it continues over the next few days or weeks and you become more concerned then see you GP .

This is relativly normal. Massaging the area regualry can help it to heal faster maybe use some vitamin e cream if you have some to help it also. It can take anything upto about 2 weeks to go down. If it becomes red or painful then you need to get it checked out.
