There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.

there is a great amount of research to prove that people not only become addicted to the substance but to the whole lifestyle that comes with using it. therefore yes i do believe it its possible to be functional and a addicted. however not many people manage to keep their lives stable for very long, nor do they generally seem to maintain their health and well being.

it is a question only you know the answer to, but i advise against such a life.

I think the very nature of being an 'addict', would mean that you would have alot of trouble keeping your substance use within your control so that you could maintain your function in your day to day life.

So to answer your question .... no - I dont think an addict could continue to use their substance of choice, and live quite happily like that for the rest of their lives - not unless someone in authority was dishing out their substance in small doses for them.

The long term effects of cocaine are still unknown, but it is worthwhile mentioning that no chronic drug treatments' efficacy improves over months.

If the threadstarter can forgive me this little hijack for a brief moment, could you please explain what 'no chronic drug treatments' efficacy improves over months'means ..?

I dont quite understand your wording there.

well sorry typsee just slightly back on subject i found that when i was on cocaine my music seemed to decline in quality but on other drugs i could write for the world..
but all in all i dont think that people (myself included )could live like an addict forever because of the last few times i have been in the studio and i came back in the morning and i was like WTF? it was just a mash up of noise but to answer your question i believe as drugs and alcohol are used the quality of life declines... and thats from personal opinon sorry if that is not helpful and sorry typsee for taking over your question

A cocaine addict that refuses to stop will ultimately end up in one of three places: jail, an institution, or six feet under. One day, the amount of blow you have won't be enough. You'll crave it and you will never be able to snort enough. You will OD and probably die. If you survive long enough, you will run out of money. Cocaine is expensive. Let's say you do run out of money. What then? So you turn to crack, which is much cheaper. One use of crack could kill you. If it doesn't the first time, you will end up repeating the aforementioned cycle and end up in one of three places: jail, an institution, or death.

It's up to you. No. You can't live as an addict. But you will die as one.
