Hi! Does anyone watch QI? and if so...do you think Alan Davies is that silly or do you think he puts it on and is actually really clever like Jonathan Creek????
It's probably put on, but then again he's not really that silly, he's just gullible, most of the answers he gives are the ones that everyone would think. He has come out with some very smart things before, like the heights of everest thing.
But yeah i think it's a bit put on. still funy though

He's the butt of the joke, and he's also the one that has to say the obvious answer.
Also, my mum went to see it being recorded, and mentioned that he actually seemed more intelligent than most of the others (barring, of course, Stephen Fry), and they had to re-record a lot of parts to make him say the obvious answer.

Also, bear in mind Jonathan Creek he's acting. In QI he's himself. It's probably put on to an extent but still. It's amusing. I've seen so many bloody reruns on Dave this summer it's unbelievable.

I agree!! QI is awesome!! though if I ever met Alan Daives I would insist on him saying at least one silly or obvious thing just to make me smile!!

Anyways, yeah I pretty much agree with what everyone's said; I'm sure he's far more intelligent than what he appears. I think that he probably puts it on for:
a) comic effect
b) so that the viewers don't feel stupid.
Think about it! Would you really watch a show where everyone on the panel was more intelligent than you? I know I wouldn't. I think that Alan provides someone for the viewer to relate to.
I think he is just supposed to represent the general public. He's not exceptionally smart like some of the people they have on that show. He is far from stupid, but then the answers he gives aren't stupid, they are just what everyone commonly believes to be true.
It is obviously for comic effect and he probably plays up to it a little and obviously is there to make the silly jokes and such. I don't think his being "silly" has anything to do with being unintelligent. He just highlights the common misconceptions that QI loves to debunk. xx
QI is great, and I absolutely LOVE Jonathan Creek. But yeah I don't think he's stupid (maybe not quite so intelligent as Jonathan Creek) but puts it on a bit.
It is really odd watching Jonathan Creek, he's like UBER intelligent! After watching him on QI it's really wierd and you can't help but thinking 'Nah! Alan Davies would never get that right!' and then he does it's well weird!!!!
