Cooking a stir fry?

I haven't cooked one before and am just wondering the best way to go about it as I want to cook one for my boyfriend and have a few questions:
1. Do I cook the meat before I fry it or just fry it?
2. Do I cook the rice and add it, or fry the rice?

Anyone have any tips? Lolz. I just don't want to wreck it.

well firstly it depends on what type of meat you're using :P

and type of rice...

what are you thinking of putting in it? I make stir-fries on a fairly regular basis (or used to, but we're going through a bit of a pasta phase right now as I bought a pasta machine lol)

Errm Turkey, we don't have any spare chicken.
And I don't know what rice, just normal rice which is in the jar in my kitchen lolz.

I bought a pack from asda with cabbage and beans and carrot I think in, and I'm going to put some peppers in myself.

cook the turkey first, put the veg in afterwards.
i'm not about the rice because we have a rice cooker in my house but i'm guessing if it is raw/dry rice as in not the microwave-type then you should cook that seperately and then put it in.

i dunno why i am giving advice i can't cook at all.

make sure the pan/wok etc if VERY hot before you start cooking, put the rice on first, as it will take longer. then fry the meat till cooked then the veggies etc, it should fry quickly as the pan is very hot.

ok, first put in the the turkey and once the outside is cooked add the veg.

as for the rice, were you wanting to cook the rice and then put the stir-fry on top or to cook it in the stir-fry?
is it white rice?

Good luck!

Last time I did a stir fry, I THINK I fried the meat after the veggies... can't really remember the specific order

Boil the rice seperately .Fry the meat first ,add the veg ,then add the rice.Soy sauce is good or chili sauce if you want a bit of flavour. The rice wont take long at the end because its already cooked ,and sir frying is a fast way of cooking anyway so make sure the rice is on the boil first.Happy stir frying!!

just a side note, you can only cook rice twice, so in this case boiling then frying. do not re-heat any leftovers.

same goes for egg fried rice, cooked rice then fried with egg should not be re-heated, and microwave rice, cooked in the packet - reheated in the microwave, do not re-heat leftovers.

some kind of wierd poison or something? heard it lots on cookery programmes, i watch too many lol!

i cook the meat first till it is done, (or almost done in the case of steak) and then add the veggies. The veggies cook quickly, so only a min or so on a hot wok and theyre done (if they arent the frozen kind) I usually do the rice seperately, and mix the rice and the stirfry on my plate.

I've never heard about cooking rice twice being deadly. I'da thought they'd put a warning on the label or something. I've reheated rice several times and havent died from it yet...

Yeah that's rubbish about re heating rice. I and almost everyone I know would be dead if that were true lol!

Boil rice.

Cook meat (if usng onions, cook at same time or before meat)

Add vegies

When everything else is cooked,

Add rice

Mm. I love making stir fry. I usually fry chicken till it's brownish, throw whatever random assortment of veg in that i want, stir it around, throw the rice in another pan, add some sauce to add flavour to the chicken, then wait :D

well if anyone dies i tried to warn them, i think its something about salmonella all the tv chefs warn about it on programmes like ready steady cook, daily cooks challenge, taste etc but i'm sure having worked in the industry for years that they are all wrong.

it's not rubbish about reheating rice... you can reheat it, but only if it's cooled and heated in a particular fashion. otherwise it can(note the can) be bad due to certain bacteria

I can even prove it if you like :P it's basically micro-biology

The rice thing is true - I believe more cases of food poisoning are caused by reheated rice/rice kept warm for a long period of time than anything else.

This is why I avoid "all you can eat" buffets...

But I can tell you've been through hell...
