So.. I've been trying to get through to my mum for a while now that I think I may be Bipolar. It took a while but I finaly got through to her She researched it on the computer and actualy admited that she has seen that I have some of the symptoms. I said that i went on the NHS website and said no to having experianced only 1 symptom. (Meaning I have all of them except 1) So until I go to see my shrink in September my mums gunna keep a record of the symptoms she sees in me, I've gotta do the same and she also wants my best friend to, since my best friend thinks theres a huge chance Im Bipolar, and she knows me very well. And then we're gunna talk to my shrink about it. I just wanted to know what I should expect? Im scared he'll just say that I'm trying to find something wrong with me when theres not, that Im seeing things that arent there. Which tbh I dont think i am. Im convinced theres something wrong weather it be Bipolar or something else. So yeah what should I expect to happen?
The symptoms of bipolar can be really distressing - I hope that your psych gives you the help you need.
It might be a better idea to go in there explaining your symptoms rather than saying "I think I have bipolar". Psychiatrists are trained to diagnose better than websites, and there's also a wide spectrum to do with manic depression.
Keeping a diary or log of your symptoms sounds like a good idea, and just let your psych take it from there. If things seem to get worse in the meantime or you're particularly unsafe, there's always the option of A+E too.
Yeah try and bring in your symptoms without mentioning bipolar. You may very well have it, but psychs tend to not like it when you try to diagnose yourself. So keeping a list is a great idea. Just give him the list and see what he says. :)
if you think you've got syptoms matching bipolar then you've got some pretty specific and/or symptoms, that I doubt will just be brushed aside. a lot of those symptoms don't match with normal emotions and symptoms. if you, your friend, and your mom think there is something there and you've researched it there probably is. I don't think there is anything wrong with saying "I think I'm bipolar." if your shrink gets on your case for assuming that you need a new shrink anyways ^^ but, do listen, they do know more than websites, and as mentioned there is a spectrum of bipolar and a lot of different kinds. best of luck!

Thanks guys.
Im just kinda scared of whats gunna happen.
I dont wanna go on like this without saying anything to my shrink cause it seems to only be getting worse with time (Which apparently happens with un-treated Bipolar..?) And i really dont want it to get to the point where Im lying in a hospital bed explaining everything to a doctor there..
Im just scared that he'll say that Im trying to find something wrong with me so I have something to blame except being bullied for years. :/
I hope he doesnt react like that.
I hope he doesnt just turn around and say "You dont have it" Without even looking into it a tiny bit.
Hmmm :/
it'd be unlikely he'll turn round and say "you don't have it". However don't go in expecting to be diagnosed first session. This is partly due to the fact that psychiatric diagnoses are tricky things, it'll probably take a decent number of sessions before he arrives at a concrete diagnosis and some psych's don't like handing out diagnoses at all as they don't believe they are helpful, they just prescribe what treatment they feel would be beneficial to you. The second reason is your age, many psychiatrists don't diagnose illnesses such as Bipolar under the age of 18 because you are still mentally and emotionally maturing and going through puberty. This isn't to say all your symptoms are down to "hormones" or "mood swings", just that separating out those which are normal for a teenager and those traits which are abnormal complicates the issue even more.
Heidi Tiger brings up an interesting point; he may not jump all over the idea cause they don't want to diagnose cause it's tricky and sometimes people are incorrectly diagnosed. So if he does seem hesitant to agree and diagnose you it might not be that he doesn't believe you have valid points. And being diagnosed goes down permantely (somewhere, I think), so you don't want to jump the gun if it's not correct. That being said, it's fine that you are scared that he will say that you don't have it and not even consider it. It sucks when you really believe you have a good point and then it's shot down right away, so it makes sense you are scared. But, if he's worth a grain of salt he should be willing to listen and hear out your thoughts. If he does think it's cause you are trying to blame something besides bullying let him know you don't think that way, but that this could be a big reason for your problems. yes, if bipolar isn't caught and handled it can get way worse, especially if it's bipolar I. And I think if you have bipolar II and it isn't caught it can change into bipolar I, but I may be mistaken. So it's good that you are taking the initiative and trying to figure this out before it gets worse (if it will). Does he normally shoot down your ideas or draw it back into being bullied? sorry for ranting ^^ I just understand how scary it is. take care
