Exercise and smoking?

Just wondering, is it possible to get fit while still smoking around 10 a day?
I'd like to start exercising but I cannot give up smoking right now

I'm working out and smoking, think its alright so long as you're not going over the top with smoking otherwise its counter-productive.

I use to smoke. I still do have the odd one, but i find working out, Okaish. I find it hard to get my breath at times.

Well done on getting fit.

Shouldn't be a problem but just be aware that obviously your cardio-vascular system will under more strain than it should be so take it easy.

I would assume that you can build muscle, burn fat etc while smoking (I mean, jogging and smoking at the same time might not work out great!). As said above, you probably won't be able to do as much exercise as you would if you didn't smoke but doing something has to be better than doing nothing. Just don't try to do too much in one go, build up slowly. Maybe even as you start to get fitter there'll be more of an incentive to quit smoking or cut down.

I'm workout on a regular basis, and only used to smoke socially. Whenever I'd do my cardio workout, if I had smoked recently, it would be extremely painful in my chest. I quit smoking even socially because of that reason. Also, it's harder to lose weight if you smoke because the heart has to work much harder than it would if you didn't smoke. So thus it takes longer.
