I've just been to the doctors and been changed from fluoxetine to sertaline, don't really know much other than what is on the leaflet, so was just wondering if anyone else has been on it and if it was effective, if people had side-effects, etc.
I know everyone is different, etc. I'm just curious I guess
I was on it for about a year, and it really helped initially but then I think I just got used to it, even after my dosage was upped, so I stopped it.
Everyone reacts differently though to medications, as you say, please bear in mind. I really hope that this helps you. I can't remember any major side effects, though I was struggling with sleep problems, suicidal thoughts and eating, before starting it so wouldn't have noticed such things as a result of the medication xx
well I was taken off fluoxetine as I got increased nightmares with it (and with having PTSD nightmares not a good plan lol), and nightmares are not listed on the leaflet-though oddly were in my doctors book when she checked, so I wanted to check there weren't any potential unexpected things like that I guess
i was on sertraline for about six montsh i think it was. unfortunately it didn't help, but i didn't get side-effects either which was something to be grateful for. but everything's different for different people. i hope it helps you.
Was on Sertraline for around 4-6 months last year (can't quite remember) before i was diagnosed with BPD then i was changed onto an anti-psychotic. However, i've been on Sertraline since the beginning of the year (150mg) for my anxiety disorder - but i'm being weaned off it and my anti-psychotic is being upped to take over from the Sertraline.
The only symptom i've had from it is restless leg syndrome - it's not constant, but when i get it it's very painful.
Definatly helped with my anxiety though although not so much now because i've been on it so long which is why i'm being taken off it.
But i've been on all anti-depressants but 2 and Sertraline was the most useful of them all.
Remember to give it 4-6 weeks to fully kick in and settle down. I hope it works for you - i've only really heard good things about it :) x
I didn't like Sertraline, it didnt help me, and made me feel ill.
I'm on fluexotine now, even though, im not taking it steadily. I really should. Im one of those people who battle it without meds. I need to start taking it tho.
thank you, Lily, for saving mummy's life*.
You are my one and only, you can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight, and you'll be alright.

I switched from fluoxetine earlier this year because of the horrendous nightmares it gave me. My cpn at the time said it is a fairly common side effect.
Don't know re Sertraline as I have never been on it.

I have been on Sertraline, but unfortunately i found it to be uneffective for me. But on the good side, i know other people who have found it to have helped them significantly!
One thing you cannot take with Sertraline, which some leaflets and doctors do not tell you, is that you cannot eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice whilst taking the medication.
I know, thats what i thought! I didnt know that for a very long time until i had a new psychiatrist who told me that and i looked it up and it said it in many articles.
But same as you, i do not like grapefruit either, so no loss to me! lol
Ive been on sertraline since feb 08 and have found it reasonable. its not cured me but im out of hospital so i guess it does help. Havent had side effects since i stopped taking a specific brand of it. That brand did really strange things to me. My gp said it was to do with the absorbsion rate or something
Also re grapefruit, it is to do with liver enzymes. There are a few your not supposed to eat/drink it with, eg carbamazapine, quitiepine etc
I'm on sertraline 100mg and it does wonders for me! It didn't really give me any side affects luckily but it affects everyone differently. I used to be on fluoxetine too which did nothing, so good luck I hope it works for you too.
