I think there is a stickied thread about this somewhere . Ive spent 9 weeks in hospital this year . I found it was scarey at first but ok after i got used to it . Id advise you to take in books / music and things to do coz the day can be long . When you're unwell though it is the best place to be .

it can get really boring, so like said, take things to do. for some people it's scary, but you realize the people in there have problems just like you, and few of them would actually hurt you. *hugs* hope your team decides what's best for you. pm me if you ever need to talk.

Ive been admitted 3 times in the past year. I echo everyone else, books, ipod, magazines, quizes, stuff to keep you occupied because it is boring.
Tell the nurses how you're feeling so they can help.
Try and do activities they put on, too.
hope it goes well x

I agree with the others. It gets boring in hospital so bring plenty of books and your mp3 player. I would also take a small bag you can wear all of the time to keep your purse etc in as valuables can get stolen in hospital. If you smoke then keep your cigarettes on you all of the time.

Good luck hun - use hospital as an opportunity to get better. As others have said be honest with nurses/staff/therapists. That helps them help you. Try and get involved with activities/groups and talk to the other patients. Maybe take a mobile phone with you so you can contact family/friends. Normally youre allowed mobiles as long as they dont have a camera on them.
Maybe google the hospital as it might give you more insight as in what to expect.
I was in hospital for 10 months and it realy helped me. Look at an admission as a positive step to recovery. It will be hard but worth it.

I agree books mp3 player and quizzes eg sudoku are all good. My mobile phone charger was taken opff me for a few days because it had to have a safety check before I was allowed to use it so I had to use the pay phone as my phone died before I could charge it again. Taking money in is always handy for vending machines and payphones although I'd keep it on you at all times. I'd be aware that some people in there may be a lot worse than you, when I was in there there was always someone kicking off so at those times I tried to stay clear of it lol I hope your stay goes well, my stay really helped me take care x

Thanks guys. I know they wouldn't put me in here if they didn't think I needed it but so far no-one has talked to me. A couple of the other pateints did over dinner but i just feel even lower than I did when I came in, at least at home i could talk to my husband when I wanted and watch my TV and sleep in my bed. I'm so unsure as to whether I've done the right thing in agreeing to come in.

It is difficult when you are first admitted as you don't know the ward and the other patients etc but you will relax more when you understand your surroundings and the other peeps more. That doesn't mean you need to be able to talk to them but you can kind of suss out what's what by watching etc.

I found the first couple of days hard but got used to the routine after that . I found the nurses on night shift the easiest to talk to as they seemed to have more time for you
