Medication Question - Lithium and missed periods - anyone else experience it?
I take a slow-release Lithium for my Bipolar Disorder, and since starting it approximately 4 years ago, I've had maybe 2 periods a year. My doctor says that it's highly likely that the lithium is to blame as it does mess with hormone levels. I'm just wondering if anyone else who might be taking lithium (regular or slow-release) is experiencing missed periods to quite this degree. As I have never been with a boy, there is zero chance of me being or becoming pregnant. I'm also not taking high enough doses of testostrone for it to affect my menstrual cycle yet (according to my surgeon). Yes, I'm stressed and going through a lot, but it has never affected my period before i began taking lithium.
