Triggering (ED) - Fluoxetine - E numbers and gelatin

Ah great

So I had to stop the paroxetine because my ED was becoming so controlling that I couldn't take it anymore; I was basically constantly paranois it was making me gain weight and I was getting more and more anxious.

So after long conversations and going through the formularie my doc has put me on fluoxetine because it's the only drug that both he and I could agree on.

But I got them this morning. And my tablets are full of e numbers and gelatin. And considering part of my ED is trying to be "pure" etc this has really shaken me up.

I can cope with the gelatin, despite being a veggie, using the idea that the meds will have been tasted on animals anyway.

But the E numbers? That's harder to cope with, especially as I know that they are just colourings and not say the E number of vit C. There are literally about 6 in the tablets I have (they are the green and yellow ones 20mg)

And I know I need to keep taking it. I don't even know what I want from this post, probs just a rant, but yeah. It's hard. And it was a shock. At least on paroxetine they were white pills without E numbers or gelatin. And I know I can't go back to docs because he's already spent ages with me giving me as much choice as he possibly can, so I'd feel really bad to say "actually, can I have meds without the E numbers/gelatin". And I know it's my OCD being worse, but still. Arggh!

Confuzzled

I've just been put onto fluoxetine too... I can't see anything on the leaflet or box about this... I have othorexia though so basically the smae sort of issues with purity and E-numbers etc as you... so now goign to do a lot of interwebing lol

I'm assuming that you've been asked to go back to the doctor after week or so as these are new meds? maybe just try your best to take them until then see how hard it is after a few days and then speak to the doctor when you're next there?

Not got to see him until the script runs out, so a month. But he's trying to sort out referrals etc for me too so I may well end up speaking to him before then. I'll keep taking them, just convincing myself I need to, it's just that bit harder, you know? That probs makes no sense, but when you're struggling to agree to do anything and then you get that brick wall shoved in your face it makes it even worse. :(

I was just gonna say hun, please don't let the fact that I've discovered this stop you from taking it. Fluoxetine is really good for things like OCD (which is in effect what orthoerexia is, just related to food more), so keep going with it and it should help. I'm probs over reacting, but I just wanna be sure. :)

Hugs

nah, I will still take them... boyfriend will make my anyway lol, been given them for PTSD type stuff but if they are useful for OCDeque things like othorexia then that's a bonus I guess lol

it will probably get easier once you've been taking them a few days, sort of getting over the initial shock... but if they do end up being too much I'm sure your doctor won't resent you or whatever for going back
