Quetiapine side effects

I've just been started on quetiapine 300mg this week. Before that I've been taking sulpiride which wasn't helping and haloperidol which they didn't want me on long term.
I've been getting a really strange feeling mainly in my legs after taking it. Like they hurt and it gets so unbearable that I have to keep moving them about. It's stopping me from getting to sleep even though the quetiapine is really sedating me.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to stop it?

Thanks I

Hiya, I think antipsychotics can cause restless leg syndrome which sounds like what it might be.

You could try procyclidine maybes.

When i was on it, it hurt my arms for some reason!

Mention to your dr? xxx

i got that with Olanzapine, it eventually stopped though. i never found out what it was but it sounds like Ami's right and maybe some Procyclidine would help.

I'm on Quetiapine also on 300mg - and i might be going a bit higher for my anxiety.
As Girl Afraid has stated on most AP's you can get muscle problems/twitches - i suffered horrendously once on an anti-depressant with restless leg syndrome and i was crying with the pain so i completely sympathise.
I've had restless leg syndrome once since being on Quetiapine and that was about 5 nights ago - and i've been on it about 4?ish weeks now. So it does wear off - but if you're beginning to find it unbearable you need to talk to your psychiatrist or GP - although if you can try to work through it as it may wear off completely. I find moving my legs before sleep, like jittering them when they hurt with restless leg syndrome, it also relaxes me to sleep. It only ever happens at night when im lying down and my body relaxes - i don't know if that's the case for you but that's usually when restless leg syndrome plays up.
*Hug*
I hope it settles down for you soon - i'm lucky enough to have had no side effects thus far only with that one night of restless leg syndrome, and sedation but that's good for me as i have severe insomnia/sleeping problems.
As i said if you're finding it unbearable though speak to your GP or psychiatrist.

As previously said, ap's have some pretty strange side effects. Im on 600mg and whilst i dont have the same as you, i wake up most mornings with dead legs. Like cramp but without the pain. If its troublesome tell ur doctor.

It's not exactly the same but when I try to "fight" my night dose and don't go to bed when ready to just drift off i.e. awake too long, I find that I get random cramp things in my legs and move my legs about a bit. This only happens rarely though.

I'm dreading taking tonights dose now but I have to take it cos if I don't I'll get grief off the nurses and they'll say it's my own fault I'm ill if I won't take my meds. I preferred the haloperidol.

Hang on in there. It seems other people have had similar things and it went away. The quetiapine has been a godsend for my sleep - it still helps me sleep several months after starting it and my prn doses have been helpful aswell.

Its really bad tonight the nurse is getting the doctorto see if they can give me anything for it.

Do you think it could be because they started me straight off on 300mg last time I was on they put me on a really low dose and gradually increased it and I didnt have any of these problems.

I started off on 25 but quickly moved through to 200mg. I have 200 at night and upto during the day. it is only occasionally when try not to "give into" meds at night that I get the leg cramps/movements.

The side effects are really bad and i don't understand why because i have been on this drug before with no problems. I was actually crying last night because my legs were hurting so much and i feel stiff all over, and what i really don't understand is that when i saw the doctor and tried to explain he increased the dose.
I have to wait until monday to see my doctor and i want him to change it to something else but i have a feeling they are going to make me keep taking it

I think I get that! I'm also on it 300 mg and i get twitches in my legs a lot. but i'm also on other anti-psychotics so that might be why.

It's also very sedating. Been on it a year now up to 600mg and you can't drive or anything after taking it. I'd talk to your dr about the side effects though. Maybe another med might be more helpful?

I take 100mgs at night and I used to take 500mgs and all it ever did to me was knock me out cold ,I do get cramps in my feet and toes alright and its annoying but not unbearable .I think seroquel is only good for sleep ,it did **** the bit for my psychosis anyway.I ended up in hospital with it on its own but of course I was barely taking it ,but it doesnt work for me anyway

Besides knocking me out every night, I don't know what quetiapin does either, but I woke up this morning, I remember (drunk) trying to take my meds last night and spat it out coz i used my vodka n irn bru to wash it down which didn't bode well, just must of passed out but I got woken up early this morning when my friend came back to the house as she had left her phone, and I couldn't get back to sleep but didn't want to take the quetiapine then, because I would of been lethargic all day....

I just know that it may do nothing for my BPD, bu without it I can't sleep and I am thankful and reliant on it now, the restless legs to get me from time to time, but thankfully not every night...
