God that woman annoys me. She insists he doesn't advocate non-violence. Surely, if he says he does, that's doing it?!? Ugh. What an idiot. And just because he says a black person was murdered and that it wasn't a racist attack doesn't mean he thinks the murder is any less of an issue. Simply means he doesn't do what the more racially biased majority do and assume any murder of a black person is a racist attack.
Frankly, I'm ashamed to have any left wing views when they are assosciated with ignorant people like this bitch =\
I'm happy for the BNP to be running, and I'm no more bitter about them getting votes than I am labour. After all, the BNP are what they claim to be, and nothing else. Labour betrayed their voters, and that's something far worse than simply campaigning for the votes of those with right wing ideals.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then. And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! -- Not a vegetarian
I do get what she's saying, though. Free speech is perfectly fine - so long as it doesn't incite racial hatred (which I think she also mentioned later on). At the point it infringes on somebody elses rights - through racial hatred, I think that it does become a problem - and so yes, the BNP are a problem.
There are a lot of stupid people out there who did vote BNP. If nothing else, things like this will raise the attention of those people, and even if they don't agree, it's something else to consider, it's in the media spotlight now.
I don't understand how people can be completely, unashamedly racist. It baffles me, I just don't get it. How can you really justifiably think that there is some major, incompatible difference between you and somebody who is from a different place/has a different skin colour?
Racism is completely unfounded and utterly retarded, but I reserve the right to be so for myself and others. Just ostracize those that you dislike, don't listen to them or associate with them. I'm a bigot towards bigots that hate people for thing they are unable to change, but I would never dream of trying to silence them. I just don't listen to their nonsense.
The thing about freedom is that as soon as you restrict one thing, you're not longer free. Censorship has already been accepted, it's only a matter of time until something you say is deemed unacceptable. I won't play thought police.
I don't believe speech can infringe against a right, it may be hurtful, but you don't have a right not to be hurt;just ignore those you disagree with. There is a case to be made for slander or actually inciting violence ("go kill x person") but I believe individuals act on their own merits and a simple expression of ideas, even hateful ones, aren't a violation of another person's rights. The person actually hurting someone is responsible, not the books they read. There are numerous racist and hateful people that are completely non-violent, the idea's aren't the problem (although ill-founded and illogical), the willingness to hurt someone is the problem - and lots of people harness that willingness even if they don't harness the illogical hate. Someone that's racist doesn't force another person to be racist just by expressing their ideas, the other person believes it for themselves just like everything else they believe. Just like everything you believe.
I think it's more dangerous to say "What I believe is correct, what you believe is wrong. You can't think or say it out loud." than to let some idiot racists to have a little media after proportionate vote elections. On a personal note, I think the exposure and expression of socialism is far more dangerous than the BNP, due to the main fact that those dangerous (imo) ideas are easily more popular and accepted than some racist nonsense. The ideas have an actual chance of effecting popular change, and has been effecting us for a while, but if I had any power I wouldn't say people weren't allowed to talk about it.
