Triggering (SI) - Uni Accomodation/Showers

Just been sent pictures of my uni accomodation.

All okay, except the showers :( *attached*

i dont know how to get around it, i mean i could just stick the towel over the top but what if people pull bakc the curtain??? or the towel gets wet?
my arms arent scarred so much, but other parts of my body are, and i just dont know what to do :(
I can't do that for a whole year
but i dont know what else to do
im going to see if i can change my accomodation, but if i cant what am i supposed to do :S :S
and its not just the scars, i just have serious issues with my body and stuff, and i feel all weird thinking about showering like that with people there :(
sorry about being a whiney pathetic idiot!

You can always work something out, like having a shower late at night or really early in the morning.

TBH I doubt people will be looking through the glass, or pulling the curtain down or anything! They are in uni so hopefully will be more mature than that!

Try not to worry yourself. I'm sure you'll work something out. =]

I remember uni halls and the showers... I won't lie, I hated them...
but you very quickly learn ways round it... due to the way the timetables work it's likely that you'll have times when you're in and everyone else is out... I used to shower when everyone was at breakfast or dinner (catered halls). But I guess I was lucky as my room was next to the showers and so I could hear when they were and weren't in use and therefore knew when I was able to use them.

as has been said, try not to stress about it too much

I'm so scared :(
Even the idea of walking in there in a towel gives me the shudders!
Dreading it so much, i was so looking forward to uni but now im just crying :(
I feel so pathetic!
I'm going to have to try and just go when people are eating, my halls are catered too...

I think I'd be the same...clothing, and then a swimming costume in there...and one of those swim bags?? those clear plastic ones so stuff doesnt get wet..soon as i saw the picture i nearly had a panic attack :(
really hope i can sort out a change, if not then i'll have to buy a bag and stuff :S
thanks for these replies, shadow-light, it helps to know someone knows how i feel, i mentioned it to someone else, and they thought i was being silly, so helps to know someone knows what it would be like

don't worry, you're not being pathetic. I remember that at first everyone was a bit daunted by the showers... for the first few weeks I didn't use them, instead I would go to the gym and use the ones there...
but after a few weeks you learn when people are out and heir routines of when they are showering, in the corridors, etc... and it gets easier

Didn't think of the gym...but it's the opposite end of the uni :S so might not work..
not sure if it's worth changing accomodation nethertheless, my second choice is the same price, but its not directly on campus, its the road that runs along the edge of the uni.. :S

if your university knows you have issues they should be able to sort something out. do you have a disabilities coordinator you can talk to or something? have a look on the university website it might give you their number or email.

i understand what you mean though. If i were you i'd befriend someone who has their own house and go there instead! or as shadow light said join a gym/swimming club/activity and shower there when you can.

I'm sure after a while you will get used to it though

I can relate. I had to live in the dorms for two years with showers like that. Oh, boy! It caused me anxiety every shower. BUT, you get used to it. Also, keep in mind that girls aren't going to be making an effort to see you naked, on the contrary they'll be avoiding any gaps in the curtain. You can try to get the back one (which is what I did), so there's less foot traffic passing you by. You can also try bringing tape with you and taping the curtain to the wall before you shower. No one will notice you're taping, and it's easy, plus cheap. *hug*

Thanks for these suggestions
The issues I have are only down to my own insecurities and self consciousness, and obviously the sh thing, it isnt related to abuse of any kind, so I don't know if they'd just be like get over yourself kinda thing :/
The tape idea is good aswell, and i'll definately keep in mind the last shower!

hey - people GENERALLY won't pull the curtains down - they can hear the running water and will wait....
I boarded for ages and have had no one come in...
plus it's probs better at uni because everyone has completely different timetables so it's unlikely you will clash...
some of the people from boarding leave flip flops or something outside the curtains.....

As a little kid you believed in fairytales,
that fantasy of what your life would be: white dress; prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on a hill.
You closed your eyes and had complete and utter faith.
Eventually you grow up. One day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears.
But the thing is, it's hard to let go of that fairytale entirely because almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope, of faith,
that one day they will open their eyes and it will come true.

I used to go in clothed and come out clothed. I had a huge bag I'd put clean clothes and shampoo/wash stuff in. I think once you get there and get into a rhythm you'll find it's not as bad as you're anticipating.*hug*

yeh don't worry about it, I know by the picture it looks a little exposed, but the curtains are long and like other people have said, no-one will be peering in, they probably feel just as weird about it as you. You'll find ways round it.
It's not worth stressing over. Have fun at uni :)

Showering while most people are out is a way to do it. I did it by having this HUGE bathrobe that I wore.

Men come and go, but dust accumulates.

Yeah, my dorm has private showers, but I've seen ones with public ones and no one seemed to care.

You can walk down there in a huge, fluffy robe if you want, should cover everything! Drape it and your towel over the door for easy access. (Or so you can easily reach for it from under.

But really, the other people there are probably very worried too.

Thank you for all of your help and support. I will no longer be coming to RYL. Semi-explanation will be inside my profile.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I was on a 9 week long program where there was a communal bathroom, shared bedrooms, so yeah basically everywhere you were someone else was too.
What usually did was, like other people have said, wait until everyone else was out of the showers before I went in, and wore a dressing gown or something I didnt mind getting damp like clothes I was about to wash or my jammies, so my body (& scars) were hidden.
Yaknow what, nobody tried to see in, nobody asked any questions, everything went fine (:
and this is a bunch of 14/15 year old girls, so I'm positive that uni students won't be that immature!
good luck! *hugs*
