You can't really *apply* to be a mod - mods here on RYL are chosen out of the community and then voted on by the head mods and other mods in their teams (Chat and Forum).
Typsee explained the *criteria* for possible future mods [here].
However, you don't have to be in green or red to help out on RYL or make sure things go okay. If you see any rulebreaking, you can help the mods a LOT by Post Reporting it on the forums (there's a little "report" button under each post), to bring it to the mod's attention.
If it happens in Chat, save the chat log and send it to chatmods@recoveryourlife.com or PM the section of the log with the rulebreaking to anyone in green and online on the staff listings.

Typsee's post linked above (if you don't want to go about it by being a slave first, we're not picky as Charlie said) pretty much sums it up - I just wanted to add that as for the forum/chat distinction, for obvious reasons we usually choose members who have shown a fair bit of presence on RYL for a while so we get an idea of what they're like - in the case of chat, people who come in somewhat regularly.

All prospective mods have to give great sexytime to all of the existing mods in order to be considered seriously. The better you are in bed the greater your chances of modship, but pleasing all of the mods is always going to be a true test of prowess.
