Repeat prescriptions
I'm not sure this is exactly the right place for this but I'm not sure where else it would fit.
I don't know what to do about repeat prescriptions. Last time I was at the doctors to get my prescription they gave me this other form for repeat prescription. But I'm not sure what I do with it. Do I just take the form straight to the pharmacy, or do I have take it to the doctors to get the actual prescription form or...what?
I'm in the UK, just in case that makes any difference...
Thanks

As Something Vague said the quickest way is to drop it into your doctors. You can ring or you can take the repeat into the doctors and hand it in. This usually takes around 2 days. You can ask to collect the script from there and take it to a chemist of your choice or you can ask the pharmacy to drop the script to a chemist of your choice.
Some chemists do a repeat prescription service (the one I worked in did and most Boots chemists do.) It normally takes a day longer this way, but you need to make sure that your doctors surgery knows you want the script delivered back to the chemist that took it up, otherwise it will stay at the doctors waiting for you to collect it.
It takes some time to understand when you need to re-order your medication, especially if you've only just started it. But if you can get it organized it really isn't too hard.
Take care

Boots can do repeat prescriptions for you, you can just ask them at the pharmacy if they collect from your surgery, then they can organise the repeat prescription for you :) I do this, which means all I have to do is pick up my meds from Boots because they deal with everything else for me :D

My local pharmacy does repeat prescriptions. I just ring them up or hand in the green repeat slip and they sort it all out for me.

I usually take the prescription to my doctor's surgery and then collect the medication two days later at the chemist.

Ok, thanks everyone :). Isn't it funny when you have to come here to find out about normal things like this.
Having looked at the wee thingy again, it's a re-order form. Whatever that is. But I'm thinking taking it to the doctors surgery would be my best plan?

A re-order form is a repeat prescription, just a different name for it =)

A repeat prescription form has the list of medications (or the majority of the medications) that you're currently on. They usually have tick boxes at the side where you tick what you need, you then hand this into the local doctors who will sign it, then you pick it up and get it changed at your chemists. They say to wait upto 3 days to get repeat prescriptions so make sure to put the prescription in a few days before you run out of your medication(s).
A normal prescription which is handed to you by a doctor (whether it by via phone in which case they'll leave it at the doctors sugerys desk) you can change straight away as it's already been signed.

It also depends which doctors how long it takes. I've been to three different doctors surgeries over the last few yrs for repeat prescriptions (you do need to take it back to your own, due to the way i've moved around they have all been my own at the time) and they all had different lengths of time. One was just 24hrs, one 2 working days and one up to 3 working days so ringing up the practice and finding out is the best way.
Most pharmacies now do the system where you hand in the repeat form to them, they will take it to your doctors and then collect it from the doctors (once the prescription has been printed and signed and then) and sort it all out for you to come and collect and just pick up your meds then which can be easier. Some pharmacies once on the record you can just ring up too and say what you want a repeat of. The one thing you have to make sure of is that the pharmacy collects/ takes prescriptions to YOUR doctors; some only do it to one, most a few of the local ones but if you're not on the list they can't do this.
This sort of service is available at Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy and some of the smaller chain/ independent pharmacies too so if it's easier for you it's worth asking. It depends whether you live closer to the doctors or the pharmacy I suppose!
