Oh, and Topsy Turvy. About some kind of opera thing, but one self harm scene. You don't really see the person harming, but you see him picking up the thing and you see the cuts.

Daddy's Girl (2006 movie with Jaime Winstone) is an amazing, brilliant movie about a teenage girl who has Renfield's syndrome (also called Clinical Vampirism) which is an obsession to drink blood.
She cuts herself to drink her own blood.
Everyone is going to hurt you sooner or later.
You just have to decide whose worth the pain.
I've never seen a SH film centred around a guy, does anybody know of such a film?
I agree that girls seem to be most vulnerable to it, but a male story would help widen perspective.
hey, yeah most of those movies mentioned I've seen, girl interrupted and manic probably the best. thirteen and secretary are great too. i just watched the recently released 'veronika decides to die' online and oh my gosh it's a MUST watch, its not about SI exactly but about suicide and its so amazing, RECOMMEND!
<<Dans ma peau (translates to in my skin) is a film completely about self harm. It is the weirdest film I've ever watched, it's very graphic, I guess it could be 'triggering'.
It's pretty depressing, and from what I remember the ending left me feeling crap.
But yeah if you are looking for a film about self-injury..!>>
I agree. That movie In my Skin was WEIRD and very graphic. It was unforgettable. It left me with some seriouslydisturbing images. I'd say its severely triggering though, so view with extreme caution and warning!

I guess it's not necessarily SH but there is a documentary type movie called 'Boy Interrupted' this boy had talked about and made suicide attempts since he was like 4 years old and finally suceeded later on but it is a horribly depressing movie just on the fact that he was so young when these thoughts began. I recommended it.
"We are male and female. We are artists, athletes, students, and business owners. We have depression, DID, eating disorders, borderline personalities, bipolar disorder, or maybe no formal diagnosis at all. Some of us were abused, some were not. We are straight, and gay. We come from all walks of life and can be any age. We are every single race or religion that you can possibly think of. Our common link is this: We are in pain. We self-injure. And we are not freaks." ~Unknown~

a horror/comedy japanese movie i recently watched has self-harm. and the school in the movie has a wrist cutting competition.
it's like a parody about people who cut. very sensitive people who do it would probably find it offensive.
a cool bloody movie, funny but stupid. it's called "Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl".

I love the sixth sense and Buffy but not for the self harm in them although I think it's good that it's there. Thirteen is one of my favourites and portrays it well. I watched painful secrets and it was beautiful in a way but I personally don't think it was totally realistic for many reasons. I think from this thread one thing I will go and watch is Girl, Interrupted I've wanted to see it for ages =)

For anyone who's not seen Prozac Nation...you're really not missing anything. :-/ I liked the book and Christina Ricci, but the movie really sucks. Just read the book instead.

i also watched "prozac nation" and read the book by elizabeth wurtzel.
i loved both. i watched the movie first. i loved the story so much that i ordered the book through the internet. i read it and loved it!
sure there's a lot the book has that the movie hasn't, but it's always like that with movies based on books.
the movie is very different from the book in some ways, yet i think is very well made. and it's realistic.
and i'm a big fan of christina ricci too!
but about the self-harm,if u want to watch "prozac nation" for that, it's really not worth it. there's only one brief scene with self-harm in the beginning of the movie. nothing more about it.
the main subject is depression.
Everyone is going to hurt you sooner or later.

im acturly watchihg this film now
there is only one self harm scene and its so sad i feel so sorry for her i almost cried
its called Dread
its about 3 students doing a film on fear and one of them is comepletely psychotic and then forces people to face their fears but in really evil ways.
but so far its a good film but yeh only one self harm scene
^I'm watching that now too
it's rather gory and what the psychosis guy went through as a kid kinda shows the reason as to why he would torture people like that, I'm not that far into it yet about 1/4th of the way through
but so far it's good

i watched that movie "Dread", like 2 months ago! i really loved it.
its kinda original in its own way and what those characters have been put through is so sad, yet fascinating.
warning-very disturbing

I'm just finished watching Thirteen. I'm pretty picky with films but I have to admit it's really good, not your average cheesy-fake stuff you get a lot of.

I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.
