Anyone take it or have taken it?

I started it today to help with depression and sleeping.
It's suppose to help the release of serotonin and melatonin.

How much did you take?
Did it have an effect?
Any side effects? First dose made me a bit nausiated

Thanks x

Can they not reduce the old ones before adding new ones in? Surely there must be some sort of interactions going on?

Do your Drs. know about it?

Are you on any other Anti Depressants?

I've heard of 5htp but I confess I thought that it was more suited to low levels of depression etc.

I'm not taking any anti depressants just mood stabilisers and AP.

I'd be interested to know how it goes for you - it's something I've read a bit about and might try at some point.

Your Dr needs to know you're taking it anyway in case there are any interactions.

You need to tell your doctor if you want to start taking anything. You're on a lot of pills and the risk for interaction is high.

If your medical team don't know you do need to tell them about it especially as you are on lots of other meds but also with your history of mania and mixed episodes as 5htp can trigger them.

When I was on antidepressants, I asked my psychiatrist if I could try this instead. He said it would be like having a crumb of bread when I needed a loaf. So I never tried it :-P I'd be careful though with your bipolar. x take care chuck

I had the same sort of feeling as what Bear said, that it's not really effective for major depression/bipolar etc, more people who just get the blues.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
