I went to the group! The reality wasnt half as scary as the thought. A dentist came in to talk about how ro look after the little ones teeth and I learnt some new things, then we did exercises and singing and dancing. I'm shy so didn't really get speaking to anyone expt one leader who was really friendly. I was a bit put off by a big group of older mums who all knew eachother and were arguing really confrontationally with the dentist lady about the best way to brush teeth etc, but other people seemed nicer. I'll go back next week and see how we get on.

shona, i thought ELC playdough was more toxic than homemade stuff? i know ELC don't reccomend playdough for under 3's because of the risk of them eating it, and at playgroup they banned playdough unless it was home-made...

also about keeping it... wrap it in a damp piece of kitchen roll and then plastic bag or cling film, and into an air-tight plastic (tupperware) container. just change the kitchen roll everytime you use the playdough, the salt stops it going off or getting mouldy.

Jade - it would be really good to have you around - to tell us things with the value of hindsight!

I need to think about schools - we're going to be buying a house this year, and I don't want to buy a house (no matter how nice) if it's next door to a rubbish school. Because we'll be in the rubbish school's catchment area! I'm thinking of going to open days - there are lots of ads for them in our local paper...

anyone else have babies who don't just stick their tongue out... but leave it there for the majority of the day (like an adult who does it out of habit when concentrating)... she's picked this up today and learnt to poke it right out of her mouth in the last couple of days.

oh she took her first unaided step today!

and fell flat on her face lol!

Hindsight is a great thing. At the time when you are going through weening and teething, you feel are you ever going to survive it. You do and your lovely bundle of joy goes on to the next phase. lol

I think open days are great, to get a nose round the school and even ask the questions you want answered. They usually hand out literature for you to take away with. Moving to a great catchment area is a good idea because if your not in the catchment area its usually impossible to get your child in.

Mand, Awwww she has found her tongue. Its all new to her, hopefully she will get bored of doing it. Awwww her first step, Im so glad you saw it, it wont be long now before Chloe is up and running.

Good luck everyone, Hope you are all having a good weekend

clever Chloe! It's amazing when they start walking! No more grubby trouser knees and you can relax on the floor cleaning!

It's also very cool because I can lead Madeleine by the hand, leaving my other arm free to carry bags.

I've been going through the ofsted inspections of schools in the area, and the one i thought was the worst, did the best, and the one I thought was the best, did the worst!

The one I thought was worst, apparently had a 'notice for improvement' after it's last inspection, and has really turned itself around in the last two years and is now the best school in the town! I'd heard bad things about the school, but to be fair, that was from parents whose kids were there a few years ago when things were bad.

I think Madeleine's sick, she's very grumpy and I think she might be starting to get a temparature

I'd either talk to your GP or your HV - do you go to a baby clinic to get Kyle weighed? I'm thinking of you, hope you get something sorted - if you want to talk my PM box is always open.

Berni, you need to talk to your GP and discuss how you're feeling.

Adela's got a cough and had a high temp last night. Is there any cough syrup I can get her at 6 months?

At what age do you need to start putting their names down for schools? My sister said that some schools have really long waiting lists.

You have to have applied for the school by i think it's November of the year before they go to school. They mostly work it out on if you're in the catchment area or if you have siblings already attending that school.
I don't know about the whole waiting list thing.
I know the school that's pretty much just next to the nursery i work at has an oustanding ofsted report and they have to turn lots of people down, but i've known children who have recently moved to the area get in, because they're in the catchment area. So it seem to me, that even if you put your childs name down early to be in a certain school, it wont make much difference to whether you get in or not. I could be totally wrong though...

and Berni, go speak to either your doctor or health visitor.

i would also suggest seeing the doc or hv.
i am going back to my doctor tomorrow in regards to my PND as it isnt getting any better, in fact i feel as if i might be feeling worse. my meds certainly arent working and i am having a couple of side effects so i have decided to scrap the idea of upping the dosage one last time to see if that works and i am gonna go ahead and just try something else.
had a big bust up with jamie on friday night as well and i realised then how bad i am feeling as i completely lost it. he told me he was gonna have me committed cos i was unstable but thankfully i think he was just trying to scare me because im still here lol. he ripped my jacket shaking me though so im not amused as its new! gonna stick it into the stitching place.
anyways, lets hope the docs goes well tomorrow. im going to change my pill back to the one i was on before now im no longer breastfeeding and im getting freyja seen to as she has sickness and diarrhoea. she has started posseting again in the past 3 weeks or so and i dunno what thats all about. return of the reflux maybe

stace, chloe has the runny nappies constantly when teething. She's coughing and sneezxing everywhere, she hates having her nose either sucked out or wiped... any tips peoples?

she's sleeping lots and not eating much, just trying to keep fluids in her, although she is taking better from a cup than her bottle, i think the sucking aggravates the runny nose.

am looking at resigning from work, have til weds to make my decision,

I hope chloe feels better soon!

Mand, simplest thing with a cold is to keep up the milk. Fin had an ear infection over Christmas and for a few days he could only stand to have milk. Also, for nose wiping, a damp flannel or a baby wipe are good because they're not rough like tissues. Other than that let her sleep, that's one of the best things for ill children.

I'm on HMIE (Scottish Ofsted reports) and i'm lost, we're between two catchment area, so no definite choice as it were! Up here, HV suggested enrolling in January next year, so that Fin could go to the school nursery.

hmmm... Maddles had a temparature all night and wasn't happy at all. Today she still has a slight temparature and is off her food, but she's happy and playing as usual... what to think?

Esmé has finally got how to do puzzles and can do a 4 piece one all by herself!

I'd just see how she goes Hefalump, she may just be a bit under the weather, or coming down with something. How has she been the rest of today?

she won't take her milk either, coz her nose is blocked up it makes her cough and chok and be sick, we're getting some fluids in by syringe, but she isn't fussed doing it that way either.

i feel like sticking a tissue up her nose and leaving it there to mop it all up lol! she has her 9month review tomorrow... worth taking her? or keep her in the warm so we don't contaminate other babies!
