It took a few tries to get used to the controls but I thought that might be because I don't have a mouse for my laptop and my touch pad is really unresponsive
Yes I think that's my problem too. And it did take me a few tries to work out the spells which makes me wonder how hard it will be for younger kids to use.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break
that its heart may stand in the sun,
so must you know pain.
There are only two ways in which one can live their life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is.
Since this is a Harry Potter themed thread, and mostly because i want to show off:
This is going to be my Halloween costume for the Sheffield Fright Night event. On Sunday October 30th. Many people dress up for the event and this year I’ve decided I’m going to go as a Ravenclaw. My house on Pottermore and my favourite Hogwarts house. Plus blue is my favourite colour. Also I look better in blue than in red.
In the websites below items for other Hogwarts houses are available. I worked it all out and it does come to pretty much the same price no matter what houses stuff you buy.
While many sites stock Harry Potter costumes, these listed below are the cheapest I could find.
The biggy: Ravenclaw robes. $29.99 (£18.78) Available at: Halloweencostumes.org
Officially licensed Ravenclaw robes, budget version. Delux versions are also available, which look exactly like the robes worn in the movies, using the same materials and design. These however can cost from $148-$180.
Delux versions of Gryffindore robes are available at much cheaper prices. This may be because Gryffindore robes have been available longer, for a long time gryffindore were the only robes available for someone wanting a Harry Potter costume. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are relatively new, coming out in the last couple of years. Slytherin robes are only slightly more expensive than Gryffindore robes.
Ravenclaw tie: £10.48 Available at: Costumestock.com
While there are cheaper Ravenclaw ties available for around £6-8 they are plain blue and white, while this is an official licensed tie with the Ravenclaw crest upon it. If you really want to save some money similar looking blue and white stripes ties are available from Primark for £2-4 (depending whether they’re on sale) These aren’t really Ravenclaw ties, they just have a very similar design. Personally however I much prefer an officially licensed product. Ravenclaw house sweater: $29 (£18.20) Available at: Alivans.com
More a homage to the Ravenclaw sweater. Official licensed sweaters can range from $48 to $184
Those dressing up as Gryffindors may be able to get away without the sweater, however can you really imagine a Ravenclaw not in full uniform?
And finally, the all too necessary: Wand: £4.41 Available at Costumestock.com
Not really one of the officially licensed wand-remakes available from The Noble Collection, however those are usually around £27 and that, in my mind, makes them a little too expensive to risk taking out and about on a night out, or to a costume party. No tears will be spilled if this cheap plastic wand ends up broken, lost or stolen.
All this adds up to a grand total of: £52.05 (not including P&P)

I think £50 on something I'd wear once (and with the risk of it getting ruined!) is excessive. Especially when you consider that P&P could possibly double the cost. But then I don't really do Hallowe'en, so maybe I'm missing something.
Wow, 50 quid on a costume. While it is cool, I could never justify spending that much!

Well I try and think of the mileage I can get out of it. Costume parties and many halloweens to come.
I haven't bought it just yet, got to live on a budget so I need to save up money for treats, especially if i'm going to spend so much in one go.
Overnight common sense seems to have been speaking to me, I am thinking of buying the cheap primark tie, or even just one of the cheaper non-licensed ties for about £7 and not getting the jumper. I think i can get away without it. No one else would care if I had the sweater or not, the robes are the important thing, that really was just for me.
That leaves just the robes and the wand which really are the important elements of the costume, and they are as cheap as I could find them.

We all hope you get in soon, but if it comes down to it, we look forward to seeing you in October.

I'd just buy a cheap plain black robe, then cheaply customise it to suit. It's easy enough to buy a grey sweater, and it could be used again for normal wear. Or, just wear a white shirt with a blue tie and forget the sweater altogether. For something that would only be worn once a year (if that) then I wouldn't want to spend more than £20.
where do you shop for your plain black robes? As far as I know robes can be just as expensive as those costumes.
You'd think it would be easy to get hold of a grey v-neck sweater. God knows I looked for like an hour.

Wait until all the shops start getting in their Hallowe'en tat. There will be a multitude of plain black robes on sale. Get some blue material (or even fabric paint) and customise as necessary. Or print out a Ravenclaw emblem and stick it on. Sure, it won't look as good, but it would be a hell of a lot cheaper. And if it gets wrecked, it's not big deal.
Checked the stores and their websites. they usually have a pattern on them and it needs to be plain charcoal grey. V-neck. Low cut v-neck so you can see the tie.
It's hard to find a cheap plain grey one.
Edit:
Looks like Matalan is coming to the rescue, Found an excellent cheap grey V-neck for £12
Considering the october temperatures, I'm glad I found this.
Edit2: eBay came to the rescue on the tie, £4.99
So new total for the costume is: £40.18
And both the tie and the sweater can be used for general wear, so I'll get a lot of use out of them.

Last night, Thursday 8 September, at approximately 10:00pm (BST), we sent out some more Welcome emails.
The good news is that we no longer expect to pause sending these (as mentioned in our Beta testing and Welcome emails post). Instead, we plan to send emails out daily over the next two weeks. As always, there’s a chance that our plans may alter as we assess the site and how it is reacting to new users but we will update you if anything changes.
For those who will be joining Pottermore over the next two weeks, don’t forget to read our From duelling to potions post and check our Help page for answers to any other questions you have about the site.
It is idle to dread what you cannot avoid.
