Chapter 10
I woke cradled in Chris's arms, head on his shoulder. I had no idea what time it was, but it wasn't important. It wasn't like I had anywhere to go, or anyone to care about, except him.
I shifted slightly, and felt his arms tighten around me. I looked up to see him watching me, a smile in his eyes. He leaned down and placed a kiss on my lips.
'Morning beautiful. How are you feeling?'
I gaped at him in shock. No-one had ever seemed pleased to see me before, not even Ryan. No-one had ever called me beautiful before. Then I saw the concern in his eyes and I realised that I hadn't answered.
'I'm fine. More than fine. I'm... brilliant. I dont think I've ever felt this good.'
I saw the relief and couldn't help laughing. He scowled, forehead creasing, and then joined in, pulling faces whenever I was in danger of stopping. Eventually, we headed to the bathroom to take a shower together, barely able to keep our hands off each other long enough to turn the water on.
Several hours later, we were dressed and in the car, heading over to Jay's house. Chris had gotten a call that morning from one of the other boys, talking about a job going down and and asking if he wanted to be involved. I was reluctant to stay on my own, even at Chris's, so I was going over to Jay's to wait for them to get back. Chris seemed quiet on the drive, not meeting my eyes. I presumed he was worried about the task he had been set, and thought little of it.
By the time we arrived it was dark, and Chris dropped me off at the door, only waiting to see it opened before he sped off. Jay answered, wearing just his boxers, and stepped back, letting me in. He had the most amazing body I had ever seen, lean but not skinny, muscled but not bodybuilder-style. There was a thin line of hair running down his stomach, disappearing into the top of his boxers. I dragged my eyes away, but he had already caught me looking. He grinned and turned away, leading me into the living room.
'I thought we'd watch a movie, have a drink, just chill a bit y'know? I've had a bit of a rough day, I could do with a quiet night.'
I nodded and helped as he poured drinks, anding a large splash of vodka to each. I hadn't had much experience with alcohol in the past, and it went straight to my head. Jay just laughed and poured me another.
After shoving the DVD into the machine, he curled up on one end of the sofa and patted the seat next to him. I sat down, leaning back, but Jay grabbed me and pulled me against him, putting an arm around my shoulders. I tucked my feet underneath me and settled against him. We watched together for a while, swigging drink straight from the bottle Jay had brought in. At one point, he lit a spliff and we smoked it together, enjoying the relaxing feeling as the smoke filled the room.
Eventually, I realised that during the course of the evening, our hands had intertwined, our heads moved closer and closer together. As I looked at him, he turned to me, our faces just centimeters apart. I hesitated, then closed the gap, feeling his mouth open as my tongue ran across his lip. I bit down lightly, feeling him moan against me. Suddenly, the taste of him filled my mouth, a mix of cigarette smoke and honey. It was so different from Chris that I started, realiseing what I was doing. I pulled away, breaking contact. He leaned in again, but I shifted back, moving away from him completely.
'Hey, what's up?' Jay looked puzzled.
'I'm sorry, I can't. I know I haven't known Chris for long, but I think we might really have something. I can't do this to him.' I tried to get up and leave, but he grabbed my wrist.
'Didn't Chris tell you? Any girl he goes with goes with me too. We have a deal. He knew what I had planned for tonight.'
I shook my head in denial. Chris wouldn't do that to me. He just wouldn't. Then I remembered the way he wouldn't meet my eyes in the car. I broke down in tears, realising I had been betrayed yet again.
Suddenly, Jay grabbed me. He threw me against the wall, forcing my mouth open with his tongue. I sobbed as he rippedragged my shirt off, throwing it across the room. He bit into my breast, moaning as he did so. I tried to pull away, but the alcohol made me dizzy and I fell to the floor, feeling him land on top of me. The end table and lamp went flying, and everything got knocked off the little coffe table, vases smashing as I fought. He pulled my skirt up around my waist, hand groping beneath my panties as he kissed me again. Just before I passed out, I felt him begin to unbuckle his jeans.
When I woke, I was dressed, lying on the saof beneath a blanket. Chris was sitting on the floor next to me, holding my hand in his. Looking around, I saw no evidence of the... fight... the night before. Seeing Chris smiling at me, I figured I must have dreamed it.
'Hey, sweetie, you want to go home?' Chris began to gather my things together. I nodded and climbed to my feet, taking his hand. Suddenly, I realised something was wrong. Something was missing.
Before I could say anything, Chris lead me to the front door. As we walked down the path, I looked back, seeing Jay waiting in the doorway. Smiling, he waved at me, the silk of my underwear caught between his fingers. Chris looked at me as I whimpered.
'Baby, what's the matter?'
I shook my head, realising in that instant that I couldn't trust him. I had know way of knowing if Jay had been telling the truth, if he had been in on it. Once again, I had no-one.
