Thank you all so much for being understanding, it really helped me through the last few days.
Hope this makes it worthwhile, there will be more soon,I'm gonna be writing a lot this weekend to make up for the slow week.
Chapter Nine
We stayed in the field together until the shadows began to lengthen, forgetting about the world. When I was with him, nothing else seemed to matter, everything just seemed so far away. In his arms was the safest I had ever been. Being with him kept me safe, and for the first time in forever, as long as I could remember, I didn't even think about cutting. We talked, and laughed, and cried, and he told me about his family, and his life with Jay. Most of the time I was content to just lie in his embrace, listening to the rise and fall of his voice and feeling his heart beat against mine.
Eventually, it began to get cold, and a light mist began to fall. Chris stood, and lifted me in his arms, carrying me towards the car. Once I was seated, he pulled out his mobile and rang Jay, letting him know what had happened. That done, he started the car and drove off.
'Where are we going?' I looked at him in confusion.
'Well, I figured since your parents kicked you out, you might need somewhere to stay. I do have a flat you know, and there's a spare room if you want it. No obligations or anything. You can stay as long as you like.'
I gaped at him in shock. This guy, who I had only met the day before, was offering to let me stay with him. He had no idea who I was, and yet he was willing to trust me.
'You're serious? You would just let me stay with you like that? You haven't got a clue who I am.'
'I know enough. I know that you're beautiful, you're smart, you make me smile, you trusted me enough to let me hold you while you cried. What more do I need to know?'
I looked at him, shaking my head. He didn't have a clue, had no idea how screwed up I was. It didn't matter how little I actually knew about him, part of me yearned to tell him the truth. To see whether this new-found friendship could last. To see whether he would run, just like the others.
'I'm screwed up. I have major trust issues. I find talking to people hard. There are days when I can't even be bothered to drag myself out of bed. Sometimes, I drink so much that I pass out, because I cant stand to listen to my own thoughts anymore. I cut almost daily, often hundreds of times, and I rarely eat. Anything I do eat, I throw up again if I can.'
I watched the road streak past as I stared out the window, willing myself not to cry. For several seconds, he was silent, and then I felt his hand on mine, twining our fingers together, until we were linked. Hardly daring to hope, I looked up at him, to see tears running down his cheeks. He didn't take his eyes off the road, but his voice, when he spoke, was gentle.
'None of that matters. That's not who you are, thats just... details. They don't really matter. I know we only met yesterday, but I'm already falling for you. We could be good together, really good. If you want help, I'll support you. If you dont, then I'm here for you, I promise.'
For the rest of the journey, we were silent, both thinking our own thoughts. By the time the car began to slow, I was half asleep, but I was jolted awake by the shock of realising that we were in the richest area of town. Chris grinned at my shock.
'Hey, what can I say? Crime pays, and it pays well. Wait 'til you see inside.'
He took my hand again and pulled me into the lift, hitting the button for the top floor. The trip up passed in a whirl, and before I knew it we were stepping out into the biggest apartment I had ever seen. It was open plan, with hardwood floors throughout, completely modern, with wall-to-wall stainless steel and glass. The TV and sound system probably cost more than I made in a year, before I was fired, obviously. Two walls were floor to ceiling glass, revealing a view out over the river to the city. The bright lights were easily visible, more beautiful than anything I had seen before.
I felt Chris's arms encircle me from behind. His mouth found my neck, and before long I found my breathing speeding up. He ran his hands over my stomach, coming to rest with his thumbs barely brushing the bottoms of my breasts. Moaning in frustration, I leaned back against him, but, laughing, he stepped away.
'Not now. There will be plenty of time for that later, but I want you to be sure it's what you want. You don't have to feel pressured or anything. Why don't you take a shower and sleep for a while? I've got some stuff I need to do anyway. The guest room is down the hall on the right, feel free to use any of the stuff in the en-suite. I'll be in my room opposite if you need me.'
He grinned again and headed off, shutting the door behind him. I waited for a few seconds, wondering if he expected me to follow him, but the lure of a hot shower was too great. The guest room was just as amazing as the rest of the apartment, but I barely saw it as I passed through. Within minutes, I was stood beneath the streaming water, luxuriating in the feel of the flow as it beat against my skin. It felt so good that I was in far longer than I intended, only getting out when I was so exhausted I could barely stand. Staggering into the guest room, I quickly dried my hair with a towel and fell into bed.
Several hours later, I awoke. The room looked unfamiliar in the green glow of the clock on the bedside table, and for a second I panicked. I soon remembered where I was, but I couldn't slow the frantic pounding of my heart. Sighing, I grabbed a robe off the back of the door and headed across the hall to Chris's room.
Light streamed from under his door, lighting the corridor. Barely breathing, I knocked lightly. I heard him move, and then his voice, inviting me to enter. Slowly, I turned the handle, pushing the door wide. My breath caught in my chest as I saw him. Lying on his side on the double bed, the bedclothes fell in folds over his slender hips, hiding him but leaving his upper body bare. His long hair shone in the low light, and his eyes sparkled. He was gorgeous.
'Hey, everything okay?' His voice held concern.
'Yeah, I just woke up and panicked a bit. Then I remembered what you said, that I could join you if I was sure...'
I tailed off, suddenly nervous. What if he hadn't meant it? What if he was just being nice? My fears proved unfounded as, with one broad movement, he dragged the covers back off the other side and motioned me to get in. Looking down shyly, my hands went to the tie of the robe. Loosening it, I allowed it to fall to the floor, and heard him gasp as I was revealed. I quickly walked over to the bed and climbed under the covers, lying facing away from him.
He spooned against me, one arm lying across my stomach. Our fingers intertwined, and we lay for several minutes together. Then, he began to kiss down my neck, and his hand moved down to my thigh, stroking the soft skin. Sighing, I rolled towards him, laying a gentle kiss on those full lips.
