I do sympathise seriously i do. It gets very annoying saying the same bloody things over and over! If people listened and took note then there would be no need to feel like a parrot.
Liv, you're not allowed a life. You must focus all your attention and energy on RYL. Christ.
It's like talking to a wall.
Im just a rebelling wall,what can I say :)
On a side note going to work isnt a life, unless I was drunk at work but thats a no no!xx
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
I don't understand how people can say that mods should be at this community's becon call whenever there is the slightest problem!
Doesn't matter if mods have jobs, or even worse they may want some social time with their friends and families, god forbid they have lives outside of the RYL community! They must be here to parent us at every moment of the day!
At the end of the day, mods are doing the very best they can with the resources they have and I for one think it's extreamly ungrateful of people to demand more from them. They don't have to do this at all, perhaps people should think about that. What would RYL be like if the mods didn't do their jobs at all?
Maybe there isn't a mod on 24/7, but that doesn't mean that problems aren't dealt with! I can't think of anything in the real world that is delt with within minutes of the problem occuring, why must we expect RYL to be any different? The mods deal with problems when they can, and I think they do a damn fine job of it, especially in the current circumstances.
You see a mouse trap
I see free cheese
And a ****ing challenge
Is it bad that I have the mental image of you calling in sick to work saying 'I'm sorry I can't come into work today, there is a slight chance that RYL may have a complete meltdown and will implode if i dont sit here staring at the screen'
I agree with whoever said you should have a red emergency phone.
I used to have a red cell phone.

Nope! It's a VERY funny image! You may find it funny to add the image of me staring at the computer screen while sharpening my knitting needles.
I was just wondering how one had to act around the site to be considered for a mod? I don't want to be one myself, I'm just curious (or nosely lol). I mean surely in a site of thousands there must be one or two people suitable?
Anyway, on v2 I was an editor for a while and I remember making a post intended to help people and got nothing but abuse, so I can only imagine what mods go through. Thank you all.
And expecting mods to be available by phone is just ridiculous. I mean they have lives. Imagine getting a text or call to come on a website, I don't think so.
Again putting in my two bit- the organisation I was a part of had a real world part where the "board/ forum moderators" actually met in person 4 times a year or so to discuss issues. Other options possible with conferencing via Skype etc as people are in different countries.
Mods seem rather too stressed out and headless chicken without Harley or some direction. And I have tried chat a few times since posting last. Realised not very predicatable- sometimes everyones mean, or sometimes everyones loverly.
But I would quote the first page of RYL- think some people are losing the purpose of this site.
We do not condone any pro-activity or encourage anyone to hurt themselves in any way, and there are a few rules to hold that in place.
I have seen a couple people in chat and forums make light of suicide comments and it is like talking to a wall when I say "not called for". I am seen to have no sense of humour, but yet I cannot find a "rule" that officially says not to say stuff like that.
We strongly believe in an open and non-judgemental atmosphere which we feel has helped so many people already. Whatever you feel you are struggling with, remember: You are not alone. Our members have proved many thousands of times that there is hope - RYL really can be the stepping stone to getting through your Self Harm.
Again, I have been a member for a long time. It helped me to know that I was not alone. I am in a place where I can absorb bullying to some degree. But it is disconcerting how much there is that no one flags. I don't know what I would do without the site. But I still don't understand why there isn't more training, and more mods who actually want to do the job.
Harley should be allowed a break as much as anybody, and I don't think the site is falling to ruin. But this thread alone is disturbing enough, and the fact that no one knows real world Harley to ask him WTF or at least, find out who his second in command is and get housekeeping done.......
Is RYL for the members or members for RYL? Everyone should pitch in. But either to dig ourselves in or out of a hole.......that is the question.

~Happy tomatoes together we will be~
You say toe- may- toe, I say toe- mah- toe:
Let's call the whole thing- red
“It’s time to lead the third revolution, which is not to say we want to be at the top of the world, but to say we want to change the world. Because the way the world has been designed by men is not working. It’s not working for women, it’s not working for men,
it’s not working for polar bears.” Arianna Huffington 2014

That's because some people cope through humour. You can't say that people have to be doom and gloom to be on this website, nothing would ever get done.

Again, being a mod is a huge responsibility and you will need to do the job up to standard, obey all the rules and generally not have any support. Most people here are not in the position to do that, and some who are don't want to because they know how stressful it is.

This.

This, I am the sort of person that to deal with struggling i tend to use humour, Its the way I am.
I've got Harley's address but I can't just rock up to his house and be like HEY. I've met him a couple of times but we've tried organising moderator meet ups before and it's near enough impossible to do, not to mention the fact that not all moderators are based in the UK and even if we all were based here, not everyone can afford/take the time to meet up in the same city.
People forget, very frequently, that RYL is not a substitute for professional help. I am not convinced we need to be trained. We are not counsellors or therapists and have never set out to be. This is a community led by the members and we try to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
If the majority of the members here see something and DONT report it, it's because it is probably not a problem. People don't ignore things, if something is concerning or triggering then people report and we get multiple reports for the same thing. So if something goes unreported then it's probably safe to say it's okay to be left (though obviously that isnt the case all of the time).
We have people moan that we censor too much and have too many rules, and other people moan that we don't do enough and the site is too triggering. You can't win either way.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
