begin_again, that's great news and I can totally relate to missing a part of your life. It's a horrid feeling and 'm glad you feel able to have your scars on show now :)
Rebeccastar: You could try thin long sleeved gloves. You can get them in lots of shops around, or use cocoa butter on scars, or even wear a thin long sleeved top, that's all I can think of right now. I hope this helps
*hugs*

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the things which you think you cannot do.
But do you not think over the past couple of years self harm has become something people are more aware of and speak more about... also that there are more people self harming? Or is that just me?
I personally cover up 100% of the time, it's mainly a personal thing, I would rather die of heat stroke that everybody see my scars. >_< That probably sounds dramatic...
But yeah. Light-coloured long sleeved shirts for the win.
I just want to go swimming! =[
I hate Summer.
~Beauty without intellence, is a materpiece painted on a napkin.~
I havent worn a short sleeve top, shorts/skirt etc for over 9 years now due to scars etc. Even in the sweltering heat i will never wear a short item of clothing.
Not even when i am alone in my flat will i wear something short, i will still always cover up.
To me, they are completely private to me, its a bit embarrassment, but mostly that they are my secret, i dont want people looking/staring and questioning me about it, i find that rude and also, i do not want to frighten or upset anyone, i think that would be unfair of me to do that, but that is my own personal opinion.
I dont know if i will always be like that, but even when i went to Florida or other hot countries, i would always were a long sleeved top and long trousers.
Most years, I covered up, but that was because basically no one knew. Although, I found that I was too ashamed/scared/self conscious to show them even to people I knew. This year, I'm 6 months free right in the middle of summer and my parents know and all my friends know. I'm still extremely self conscious about them, but I find it easier to show the ones on my arms. The ones on my legs are a definite no. I cover up with a hoodi or armwarmers or wristbands to cover up when I'm around the beavers or my Flute students.
I covered scars up for years and my CPN helped me and encourage me to just wear what im cool in instead of sweltering in the heat. And now i wear what i want to unless there are fresh cuts which i do cover. xx Be brave lovely poeople!! xx
And if your thoughts should turn to death, you gotta stub them out like a cigarette..
I won't bother covering up around my friends because they all know, my family I'm selective about, I have no problem wearing short sleeves-tank tops because the scars on my arms are really hard to see b/c I'm so pale but I try not to wear shorts anround my family/people I don't know and usually when I go out in public I always wear a jaket and jeans no matter how hot.

i dont show off fresh cuts but i dont always hide my scars cause there on my wrists and i hate wearing long sleeves in the summer. i try to put foundation/cover up on my scars to make them lighter. i also came up with a story that accauly works when i tell people, i say my friend has a very evil cat and it attacked or scratched me.
[listen to the song that i sing, you'll be fine...<3]
iv got them on my arms, but when its hot i dont cover them up, i dont like them but they r part of me. people always look but theres not a lot i can do about my scars so i try to ignore them.
I only wear long sleeves if I have fresh, noticable cuts on my arm. But I have stopped cutting my arm and moved on to my stomach so I don't really have an issue with wearing short sleeves. The scars are really old and if anyone asks (which they usually/most likely won't), I tell someone who i am not close with that i have 'stopped cutting.' Because if you don't know the person well, or think that they wouldn't do any good knowing, then you shouldn't have to tell them. But if it is a really close friend, I don't mind them knowing.
[crazy]girl, I have noticed my scars fading an awful lot.
I keep mine on show as much as possible in the summer, to help them fade a bit more. I have a lost of pink raised ones though and they are slowly fading, which I'm liking in some ways, but in others hating..
I think the sun helps our scars to fade because of the vitamins the sun's rays give you. I think it's a good idea to keep scars uncovered as much as possible - if you're comfortable with it - but maybe oyu could have them uncovered when you know you're alone, like in your garden when your parents are out or something.
It's rather like light therapy on scars, but just with the sun and not costly! :D
Keep on truckin' everyone :)

It's only this summer I've started wearing short sleeves, but that's only around friends. :)
Around family I don't.
I guess I'm just too lazy to care now. I do get stares and comments from strangers, but my friends are used to it it's like they're not even there and that makes me feel better about it :D
And yeah, they are fading a lot faster now I have them out in the sun than where I used to cover them up 24/7. :)
I'm gonna tap him like a maple tree. I'm gonna search him for some syrups. I'm gonna be having sex with him.
I only cover my scars when my family's around (meaning 24/7). I don't care about strangers at all.I don't even hide my fresh cuts. It's quite messed up because I have very strange cuts (some are heart shaped and some star shaped) and everyone;s starring. The 'normal' cuts are parallel, so it's obvious I self injured.
I wish I could wear short sleeved t-shirts around the house, but if my parents find out they would freak out and close me in a 'nut house' ,as they call it.
You can buy me with a coffee,I'm so cheap. Got bitten fingernails&a head full of past;Got a broken heart&your name on my cast.
&&I wanted her to tell me that she will never wake me.
Fresh cuts = no
Scars = my past, which I'm not afraid to cover up. Can't please everyone, **** the people who have a problem with it, it's their problem. Why should we cover up who we are :)
-that's just me, other people may or may not feel differently about the situation. But your scars are still a part of who you are (I believe).
I don't particularly like my scars, but I wouldn't want them to disappear completely, just fade a lot. It might sound weird 'wanting to keep a reminder' or whatever my explanation for keeping my scars is, but I don't think I'd be myself without them. They remind me how far I've come, also.
If anybody wants tips on how to make them fade, I've used water and baby-oil every night before bed, it's made a difference to them :]]
I have a few scars on my hand but I got away with saying to my parents I had an accident, so they don't bother me as much. All of my cuts are on my chest and if I ever go swimming (which is rare), I just were a tankini, the fact I can get away with it makes me cut more.
for those few hours were the happiest in my life.
it's all my fault you're gone.
psychotic-44: I feel the same way about my scars. Feel quite sentimental about them.
If they were to completely disappear, I wouldn't feel like myself. My scars are what makes me, me! If that makes any sense lol.
I have found that the sun helps a lot, alongside cocoa butter and baby oil. I always scrub my scars in the shower too, I guess I feel that would help them to fade somehow..?

I use specialist camoflage makeup from the Red Cross. You ring them up and you get refered to a Skin Camoflage clinic, and the staff select a colour for your skin tone and teach you how to apply the makeup. You then get a prescription for the makeup. It's really good, I recommend it to everybody.

I have an odd relationship with my scars. Generally I loath them, I wish they weren't there, showing the world what a bad, messed up person I was, am. But sometimes I'm a little in love with them; they show everyone that I survived, and in an odd way that I care enough to hurt myself (as in I care so much about others opinions that I will go out of my way to hurt myself when I don't meant their expectations). We seem to live in a world where a lot of people simply don't care anymore. So to me, they are sometimes kinda special.
I very rarely cover them up. Generally from day to day, I'm more than comfortable to wear short sleeves but for occations like job interviews and weddings etc I would try and wear a shrug or something. As I said, I don't always like them, but they aren't going anywhere and they never will so I just figured that the faster I came to terms with them personally, the easier it would be.
