I don't regret starting. But only becasue without self harm I would have no form of release, no emotional outlet, thus I would be ****ed in the head...more so. To be honest I'd only be smoking 20 times more than I currently do, taking some form of drugs, legal or otherwise, and drinking myself into a stupour everynight - all in sheer desperation for a release. So no, I don't regret starting self harm.

However, I do regret doing it sometimes, if only because of the hassle it can cause via scars, getting blood on my clothes and bed covers, trying to keep them properly clean so they can heal, etc etc. I wake up the next mroning after a bad cut and it's like "why did I have to go and do that...now it's just going to cause a load of new ****..."

I guess it can be a bit of a viscious circle in that way, cutting to release stress and emotions = hassle and problems that can end up causing more stress and emotions. *shrugs* still, I don't regret.

I regret starting. Maybe if I had started, then I would be happy, might not be so clingy and might not've messed up what was a really good friendship with someone.

I don't regret starting. It started off as something very releasing, very infrequent and appeared not to cause any trouble. Even as it's escalated, I still feel that it serves it's purpose. It makes me feel better. I know I shouldn't....but I don't want to stop..........

I ticked 'Other' because I'm quite mixed about how I feel about it. I do regret starting self harm because it feels like a vicious cycle, if I hadn't started then maybe things wouldn't have esculated like they did but again, if I hadn't started maybe they would have esculated in to something else. I also regret the scars & the upset it's caused a lot of people.

I don't regret it though because I really feel like I need it, I know that probably sounds strange but that's how it's been for me & without self harm I wouldn't have met half the inspirational people I have done.

I really don't know, it's hard to know.

I regret being found out by work colleagues, and I'm not happy that I have somebody's name scarred on my arm, but I don't actually regret my SH. It's not good, but I do think it's helped me to avoid worse, more irreversible, things and I don't think I'm ready to stop just yet.

Does that make sense?

I can't honestly say I regret it. I regret the fact that it was the only option I had at the time, but no, I don't regret starting. I'd be long gone if I hadn't started. In an odd, bizarre kind of way, it keeps me going.

I do and I don't regret it.

I regret it because I messed up lots of relationships because of it and I tore my family apart. I regret it the most because of the scars, I know, my scars show what I've been through and tell a story, but they make me very uncomfortable. I feel like with these arms I could never be beautiful.

On the other hand, I don't regret it because even though I lost friendships and relationships because of it, it showed me who my real friends were. The ones who stuck with me through the tough times mean everything to me now, the ones who left, they weren't even worth having as friends. Without SI I would've found another alternative to dealing with my stress and anxiety, most likely alcohol and drugs.

And of course, without my SH I would've never met all you wonderful people here on RYL. I would've never had this amazing community of friends and supporters who I can talk to.

I guess my SH is just a part of my life, it's brought me to where I am today and makes me who I am. I'm not saying I like who I am, but without it I'd be a different person.

I said other. It is such a complicated thing. Obviously my life would be much easier had I not ever needed to cut, but it has gotten me through things that I doubt I would otherwise have made it through.

I said other because of the scars and the damage it's done to my family relationships. But i wouldn't be where I am today without having done it. And I would be with my partner now if I'd never started. So yes and no

Other.
I regret cutting because of the scars and the expression on my mum's face when she found out.

I don't regret it because it made me the person I am today.

I do regret it. Lately I've been thinking about it and I keep thinking like, if I had never cut that first time, if I had chickened out, like I almost did, then the past two and a half years would have been so different. I probably would have had more of a life than I ended up having, and I probably wouldn't have spent more than half of the time in inpatient. Although, then again, I might be dead right now if I hadn't started. I know it was my only santuary (besides food) that I could turn to when I needed relief. I don't know, maybe I don't regret it in some ways, but in most ways, I think I do regret it.

It's hard to just give it a yes or no answer. I cut because of deep feeling of anger, depression or frustration. If i didn't hurt mysef i think i might have struck out an attacked others. Ultimatly that would have made me feel worse. I'm not proud I started but i suppose i've accepted it as a nessessary evil.

I wish I'd never started cutting myself as it just got me into a vicious evil circle.

I chose no.
Because even though i've lost most of my friends, the scarring, the relationship, and all the trouble i've had.
It's made me grow up a bit and realise the consequences,in a sence it's made a better person.
