its weird, on this ward, the cigarettes and lighters are kept in the office. the ward i was on a few weeks ago in Eastbourne didnt do that, and they didnt really care that people smoked on the ward. was supposed to be the same level of security.
even this hospital has changed so much since a couple of years ago. the doors are locked now, everything is opened with a keycard, so much more secure. its more like a PICU than acute, its actually worse than the PICU.
i dont understand why they had to make so many drastic changes.
like when they changed 'voluntary' to 'informal' patient.
I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
Marmite will have been the glass jar as we had that rule in my hospital.
It sounds silly but a lot of these rules make sense and even in my hospital there have been changes over the 18 months that have occured between my stays. The reasons are members have abused thing so they have had to tighten things up or ban them. A key example was in the past there was unlimited access to the smoking yard and although cigarettes etc. were kept with staff patients would constantly sneak them in and smoke in there rooms so now smoking times are restricted and members are only allowed 1 or 2 cigarettes maximum

There were loads of rules on the PICU I was on, but now that I look back they all seemed reasonable.
Although one patient managed to smuggle weed onto the PICU despite the fact that all visitors have to leave their bags and show the contents of their pockets before they come in, and the courtyard (which has a very high fence with barbed wire at the top) is constantly supervised by at least one nurse (and it's a tiny courtyard with nowhere to hide). Somehow the patient managed to smoke the weed without the nurses realising :/
PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
I just remembered one, we weren't allowed to make real coffee on the unit. They said we were only allowed to have this awful instant decaf powder stuff with no cream or sugar. When we got to a high enough level that we could leave the unit for 15 min with another patient we would just get coffee from the cafeteria. The nurses let us have that coffee and would even buy it sometimes for patients without off unit privileges if you gave them money.
It doesn't really make sense that we weren't allowed to bring in regular instant coffee packets or have cream or sugar in our coffee in the unit but it was fine if we bought it or had family members bring us coffee from a shop or something...are other units like that?
"Some people get by, with a little understanding. Some people get by, with a whole lot more."
the rule I find ridiculous at the minute is that I'm on 2:1 obs and yet I'm not allowed anything. They completely stripped my room and I'm not even allowed my comb to brush my hair. Surely with 4 eyes watching me (my hands have to be watched constantly) - I should be allowed items with supervision? I've never been aggressive, lashed out, broken anything etc. No idea.

When I was in hospital they were so short-staffed that one day a lady was the cleaner and next she was a support worker.
If you were on 'red' you had to be out of your room by approx. 8:30am and then you couldn't go back in until 9:30pm. 'Amber' patients had an hours access a day and then you couldn't go to your room until 9:30pm. 'Green' patients are supposed to have room access all the time but it didn't always work like that.
That sounds awful. Not to be flippant, but I'd have gone mad without being able to go to my bed when I needed to. We had decaf coffee too but I think people were generally allowed to bring their own. The kitchen was locked between 12am and 6am but they still used to let me get a cuppa if I woke up in the middle of the night. My ward's kind of okay though; I've spent about 9 months up there and never seen anyone get restrained - they tend to promote talking and relaxation wherever possible.

You'd be amazed but I've known people be able to attempt things and in some cases,do,whilst on that level of obs.
You're on 2:1 for a reason....
we had many funny rules but what i found rather funny is that we had a group each week where we would 'mark' our progress. i was given an 'A' one week and got to choose a prize... the prize had an obvious SH tool in it.
cant actually believe the staff chose it as a prize in the first place.
i also was on 2:1 obs once and still managed to harm myself so i can see why they take away all your things as well as being on obs.
