you were 16 when you got them... i will be at worst 24 when i get mine off...

just think about it though after (hopefully) 2 years, you'll be done with it. can you try getting an appointment asap? make sure to talk with the dentist about your fear though so that he can make some adjustments, like anesthetics.
i've read about TMJ just now and it sounds really painful and jaw/teeth problems may contribute to it from what i read.

but I Just looked and the only orthodontist in the town i got to school in take my inshurince!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno if the US do this, but when dentists are just starting out here, they do jobs that are not standrad check-ups for free/reduced amount so long as you let them use your Xrays or whatever (:
