Agreed, since most of our problems come out of people forgetting the rules (or ignoring them completely) in the heat of passion.
Guidelines are ment to be as unrestrictive as possible so that they don't stifle the flow of things but also help keep debates from turning into arguments.
And I agree with User_Name (sorry, don't know your real name) in that we don't need any more
rules as long as people pay attention to the ones we have now. The need for added rules comes when people stop abiding by the rules they've willing agreed to follow by having an account here.
I think that's the real question here: as a community are we going to able to "keep our heads" and honor the agreement we've made to follow the rules when we disagree and need to debate it, or does the staff need to set more limits?

I feel that giving members the freedom to debate as long as it remains within RYL's current rules is a responsibility, obviously if they break the rules actions should be taken, such as the current rule framework already allows for. Asking for more rules implies that you don't believe members can be trusted to remain civil to each other.
