Our defense or at least the one we trying to build on is fundamentally good, just not experienced at national level.
Looking at the England squad, there are some really strong players - they need to find the right formations to make the best of those players. I think Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen worked well together in the 2006 World Cup, for example, and hopefully the time between now and the 2010 World Cup qualifiers will give Capello the chance to work on looking at the different formations, and finding the strongest team.

I'm happy anyway - my new England away shirt arrived today.

At least you do not support the scum up the '69, or those whom I shall not mention...

I disagree. There are overlooked or simply ignored better team players for England. Sure our midfield has 4 brilliant individual players but none of them work as a team! Upfront if we don't get cursed by injures we do have some decent partnerships, but usually one or both of them get injured and we're just stuck with another two individuals who can't play together. Yet the defense does work as a team and it's only individual mistakes due to lack of experience that cost us.

It's horrid IMO. I've never liked Umbro kits despite the last England away being decent for once. Nike designed shirts are by the far the best.

Football is dull as ditchwater. At last rugby is amusing cos you get to watch VERY MANLY MEN have an excuse to have a quick grope!

Heh, sorry about that...

I've been desperate to talk about football for ages (especially with the Man Utd/Wigan and Chelsea/Bolton matches this weekend!), and this seemed like a good opportunity... Heh.

Hehe, 'cos so far I've been able to make vague attempts at (basic) football knowledge. If there was a thread purely for football, my lack of any real knowledge would show up immediately!

I might be a football fan, but that doesn't mean I know anything useful about football apparently!

Although I am tempted...:D

Heh, the rugby fans don't need their own threads to prove how good they are, right...? :P

(I do actually own a rugby shirt though! :D)
