My sister had a baby at the age of 19. He's the light of my life and he made me realize i really could still love someone. when he's around me(he's almost 3 now) my soul lights up. we wouldnt give him back for anything. yeah iwsh my sister could have gone to college but hey she's happy where she is right now. i think most teenagers though are not equipped to be parents. theyre still kids! its sad but i know if i got pregnant right now i wouldnt be able to handle it. i would give my baby up for adoption so it could have the best life i could possibly give it. cause thats what being a parent means. offering your child the best you can...if you cant do that than you have no right being a parent. my sister was one of the lucky one my parents stood behind her and support my nephew because she is unable to afford day care. and we're all ok with it...

I need you to know...I'm not through the night

personally i think a baby should be brought into a world where the parents love eachother, and have the stability to support a child, i think kids should live there lifes before having kids, but its there choice, if they are capable to look after that baby and love it, and bring it up in a happy enviroment, then yes. Its ok. But i think teens think babies are so much fun and dont realise the hardwork and sleepless nights that comes with it.

I'm flying away & leaving the pain behind...
just promise me heavens still wants me,
and that i'll be beautiful when i saw past the cloud break.
- my scars will fade, the memories will die-
-ill become pure in the next life-

ive often took my 4 year old neice out and my 2 year old nephew, and often got horrible looks, and even had people say to me, ooo arent u young to have children, ive just turned 20!! its disrespectful how many people look at and treat you like dirt when they think your a teenage parent!!

also my friend who is nearly 21 has just today informed me she is 10 weeks pregnant, im actually over the moon for her, as she has her own house, and a good job, and has been with her boyfriend since she was 15!

i think it depends purely on the circumstances

I don't see anything wrong with teenagers planning and having children if they are responsible enough to look after them. I'm also fed up with the stereotype teen parents = bad parents.

I think there should be an aptitude test for teenagers who want to become parents.....

Because having kids puts more strain on people than they realise....and teenagers who are little more than children themselves should know the risks and problems it may cause for them

Plus the thought a relationship at say 15 years old....9 times out of 10 will not last more than a year....let alone bringing a child into it

Its unfair on the child

That may be, but the facts are teenagers are much less likely to have the emotional maturity and the financial ability to suport a child. If you really love someone and want to have kids and stay with them for ever and ever, what's wrong with waiting a few years until you have some money saved up and have experienced some more life.

there is something on tv about teens looking after other peoples babies to show them what its like being a parent. the kids on it are really irritating, but i truly do believe that teens can be good parents.
a planned baby at 17, i wouldnt say it is ideal but again that also depends on the situation. when i was 17 i had left home and was holding down a job, paying bills and i was engaged soon after my 18th birthday. i am now nearing 21, still with the same man and having a planned baby with him.

why?surely if theyre both ready to become parents, have spent a long time talking about it etc then thats better than just getting pregnant?

I think each case is different. There are some teenagers way too immature to have a baby. But others who do a fantastic job.

I know a few 17 year old parents who are more mature than most 20 somethings and are parents. Sometimes having a baby makes you grow up quick.

I'm not a teenage parent but I'm 'young'. I had my baby at 21. I'm still with her father, we live together as a happy family, and we DON'T claim benefits (except child benefit and tax credit but anyone who earns under 60k (most of the country) claims them if they've got a child).

I'm a well educated person - I have more gcses and a levels than most people, at extremely good grades. I plan to go to university and get a degree and become a teacher once my baby's old enough to be left in the creche (age 2).

What I'm saying is don't judge people you don't know.

I'd swoop over you
And plop on your head.

My godson is a week old today!!! -dances- his mother is sixteen and the father is seventeen. People say horrid things to her and she can't get a job to support him b/c she was pregnant. It's not like it was her fault. Sometimes I just wanna march up to someone and scream all the things he did to her and how exactly she became impregnated. But I can't. I would never to that to her or her baby...

You're gunna think I'm lying when I say this...because I still can't get my head around it myself...
My friend who was 15 in August, got his 14 year old girlfriend pregnant and she's now like 15 weeks with twins.
I'm not one to make judgments but I know how irresponsible this guys is, he always 'forgets' to use a condom and is constantly off his face.
AND he cheated on his pregnant girlfriend on new years eve.
I'm seriously worried about the future of their children.
Their parents are trying to get them to put the kids up for adoption and I really hope they do.

My aunty was pregnant at 14.
My aunty and uncle are still together and so in love and are great parents and grandparents.
He could change when the baby comes a long, obviously it's up to the girl if she wants to keep the twins. But just because she's young doesn't mean she wont do a good job.

I saw them today (separately).
She was huge (and she's only 16 weeks) and smoking.
And he was trying to pick up drugs.
I really hope it works out though because she does seem genuinely excited.

I get scared if my period is late (situation I have at the moment) because I get scared that I might be pregnant. It's a situation I don't really want to be in right now due to the fact of my age, that I wouldn't want to have to go through an abortion and the fact is if I did keep it my parents would kick me out!

My mom has said before now that if I became pregnant she would pay for an abortion for me because she wouldn't want my career ruined due to me having a child to look after, which is fair enough!

I've already planned the age I would like kids, and that's another 9 years away! =D

Hey. Im Riley. Im sixteen and the mum of a two week old beautiful baby boy. My girlfriend wont talk about how he came about, but I have no problem with it. My ex bf, before Rylyn, was abusive and forced himself onto me. Leaving me, nine months later, with my little angel.

I wouls like to add my tuppence to this debate. My sister is 26 ( i know olde rhan we are talking about) and she fell pregnant at 23 shortly after she got married. She is about to have another baby, is divorced from her husband and lives of benefits. her ex-husband is too lazy to get a job-always has been.

They loved each other(at least, she loved him) annd had a stable relationship until he cheated on her, got her best friend pregnant, then got beck with my sister and got my sister pregnant.

Now, how is my sister supposed to live, except on benefits? at least until they are both in school.

Also, you can be a good mum or a bad mum at any age. I know a woman in her late 40's who has a 5year old (who she regulaly shouts at and smacks when he has done nothing) and she is also about to give birth.

equaly i know some very good teenage mums.

You cannotjudge people on their age...it is pure stereotyping.

She can work though, there's a thing called working tax credits and they pay for i think about 80% of child care costs, even if she just goes back part time.

My youngest nephew was born to my younger sister when she was just 18. She is the most fantastic mum you could ever see. She stayed at college to finish her nursery nursing course and has ambitions to further her career (learning sign language and has a lot of one-to-one specialist work). Her little boy is beautiful, bright and extremely well-behaved. This is all despite the fact that the dad has had nothing to do with them and even though she had to live in a hostel for a time. I am so incredibly proud of her and get so mad when people assume that all teenage mums are irresponsible. She did not plan to get pregnant (was on the pill) but has brought up a brilliant little boy who is the only thing that actually genuinely makes me smile as of late.
