^ Germany has sent sorta well-established German popstars before, and it was always very horrible.
I also think it is considered a good platform to start careers and present new faces, just for the novelty of it.

Now Lillie's ninja posting made the ^be all wrong. Ohwell. It was a comment on Sophia's post obviously.

I think some of the shows/acts in general are very much overboard, but I always understood that was part of the "charm" of all of it or something.

Another edit. Obviously I misunderstood Lillie's post and she was saying the opposite of what I thought she had said.
I think I give up on posting for today. :P

^ cos its usually very very political and people vote based on allegiances and 'big' singers don't want the bad publicity amongst other things.

And noone understands it! Thats the beauty of it- weird, whacky and wonderful!

I will link you to some videos of established German entertainers and you will see why that doesn't mean they are any better:

Also why do ost of them insist on singing in English? Don't get me wrong its amusing when they sing with minimal understanding and stress the wrong parts of the word but why???

I think statistics would prove that you are more likely to get votes/points when performing in English.

I loved Lena's song that won for Germany in 2010, but I understand native speakers making fun of her fake pretend cockney-ish accent. :P

I can't blame you, listening to certain songs basically qualifies as self-harm. :P

I still love her and that song, but Conor always makes fun of her and imitates her accent. :P

Haha :P

I just really like that song, and she is cute and charming and I just like looking at her. :P

Overall, I think Eurovision is just not where they do music that I like. Still can't get over the fact that Lordi won that one year. I think that Norwegian dude from 2009 is one of the handful of winner songs that I actually thought was kind of good.

If I have particularly strong feeling about a winner I do. :P

Lena was very much hyped here too, there was lots of marketing and media presence etc. I read that there were 14 million Germans watching it when she was in the contest, while the last two years it was just 8.3 million. She is also like marmite here, very much a love her or hate her personality.

Also, despite not watching this or being muchly interested I am the poster with the most comments on this thread. :P

Austria got the 'freak' (for want of a better word) vote. The song wasn't even any good!

Iceland were my favourite, but cannot believe Latvia didn't get through to the final with their song about baking a cake.

i agree i hated the austrian song too but i am glad she won just because it sent a really strong message. she was just on german tv and i loved the interview she gave. i love that there are people out there who can be so honest with themselves. its refreshing.

ICELAND WAS THE BEST. i loved it so much. it gave me such a positive vibe and i was in a better mood right away.
i am sorry for the russian twins but the booing when russia got 12 points was amazing
