Personally, I eat a mostly vegetarian diet. But every few months, something in my body goes "hey, I want meat NOW" and eating lots of beans and spinach doesn't help much. When that happens, I could eat pot roast with a side of hamburger and then some steak for dessert. It generally goes on for a couple of days (or until I consume a sufficient amount of meat) and then it's over. No more cravings until next time.
I figure your body will tell you what it needs when it needs it, so I listen to my cravings (mostly because I become a raging hell-bitch when I don't) and pay attention and try to keep it in moderation. If you're one of the people who literally cannot survive without meat, that's okay. If you're someone who could live for the next two hundred years without even thinking about eating some meat, that's okay too.
But fake meat is ick. Unless it is a veggie burger, then I am all over that like white on rice.
