Yeah, even among the doom & gloom I do still see support being given, which is nice.

Which is sad, because I used to be a forum girl. Oh well.

Yeah, I am quite early (joined just about under a different name when it was ruin) in RYL's history. I disappeared for about 3 years due to various reasons, and I can see changes.

I remember when Harley posted quite regularly and so did he his Dad.
Does anyone (other than me!) remember when every Saturday night Harley's Dad used to post a tale?

I wont be going in a hurry because still to me it still offers support when I need it. But it still feels in some places that nobody is really listening.

Meh. Harley seems to have got a life.

We were promised something quite some time ago and we didn't get it, so what? Happens in life all the time, just look at the UK government at the moment. Yes it sucks but we have to deal with it.

RYL is changing with the times, things won't be the same as they once were, communities will shift and morph.

I am just going to point out something amidst the critiscism of the community. I have joined RYL multiple times since about the age of twelve (approx 2003) but often saw the community as too close knit and I felt scared trying to become a part of it and gave up. I still don't really feel a real part of the community except as a manchester meeter, and especially recently, RYL has become clique-y, but I don't feel I'd be entirely ignored if I needed support

Sometimes you have to laugh, or you would cry.

i didnt intend to reply to this.i knew it would be a difficult thread and also for some reason threads in this part of RYL often seem to trigger me some what - maybe cos they often understandably contain difficult issues and also i dont like confrontation/can feel threatened/unsettled easily.

Whilst its not nice to be promised something and not get it even late i really think people need to focus on the bigger picture.

As an individual i go through ups and downs with RYL.It can be a challenging place to be.But at the end of the day nobody has to pay to be here [apart from their internet connection] and nobody has to come here and quite frankly if your in a situation like me or many of us here i would have thought people would just be glad they dont try to come to the website one day and find it has suddently disappeared.

i criticise RYL as much as anyone if not more on occasions. However that is my worst nightmare it not being here. That would effect my support network, my life, the friendships i may have dramatically. And things like v4 not being here while having been promised to me would suddenly become a minor thing if one day i tried to come to the site and it was no longer here.

Yes its not nice to be promised something and not get it and also for some of the people in this thread feeling that things never seemingly get done.Thats really frustrating but at the end of the day ive learnt the hard way and through a lot of pain RYL is what it is and you will make of it what you will. And sometimes you will get hurt and/or feel abandoned and that nobodys there and other times you may find the people on it and the site amazing.

Maybe at the end of the day a bit of straight talking is needed but then also remember people have lives and feelings and we should be grateful for what we have - if people dont like it or gain for it and dont feel it will improve [which it may not] i think we have to ask ourselves why do we come back?i think then people might/will find how much RYL means to them and for what/why or if it doesnt mean anything at all.

Also i agree with Disappear and Snow White no we cant get to every post but i see a good deal of people on here go out of their way to respond to people and try and help them out and offer support etc and yes this is a valid thread but it saddens me the amount of replies this thread has had [many duplicating each other etc] when people could have each replied to one support thread more. After all is RYL not what we make it?

At the end of the day im the first to say ive criticised RYL a lot before and openly but we have to live with what we've got and work together to achieve what we can cos thats all thats possible.Cos thats all you can do.Unless your gonna leave.

Yes we need an update, yes its long overdue, yes it may be darn frustrating for some but if and when Harley can im sure he will update us on it especially if he sees this.

i dont see what else can really be said greatly.

Love to all.

xx xxx

I think one of my biggest irks is that what's happening at the moment is discouraging anybody from contributing to the site. There used to be really excited and enthusiastic CT and V3 creation teams, and based on what I've seen recently on the CT, it seems as though people have just lost interest. It's sad that there's so much creative potential and so many people willing and wanting to do good things for the site, and to see their keenness thwarted. Basically, what Chels has already said.

With all due respect, this concerns me. It's repeatedly said that RYL isn't and shouldn't be used as a replacement for real-life help, and it concerns me that people are that dependent on this site - personally, I think I view that as being just as maladaptive as something like SI. There's definitely room for online interaction as part of a healthy lifestyle, but it slightly concerns me that there's that much reliance on this site [I'm very aware that this is coming across as not quite how I intended it, and I'm also very aware that this may sound as though I'm targeting you specifically - please don't think I am. It's something I've seen in other posts as well, it's jut that what you wrote sort-of summarised it for me].

i see your point about encouraging people to participate and that you feel whats currently happening doesnt encourage that.

No RYL is certainly not an alternative support. No way.id never see it as that.It is however a supplement and a supplement to my life.It is on my care plan as a supplement to the support i receive from my team with their agreement.

Sorry if my post was worded wrong, with all due respect.

The thing is, I am more than happy to make things for the site, etcetc, but I can't because "v4" is magically appearing soon, and Harley told us not to do to much because it would exist. That and not everyone has the powers to do stuff, so like. It's a bit pointless. Sigh.

I just wanted to highlight these, cause they're so true. I do care about the CT, but when ideas pop up, we always have to wait and see what happens with v4, because apparently it's going to be magical and solve everything!

Totally agree with Jo and Erin.

RYL is not your therapist and psychiatrist and doctor and whatever else. It's supposed to help you as you get professional support, not replace it.

I may be missing the point here but surely RYL exists to allow people to exchange their ideas and to find mutual support with their problems. I don't know exactly what Harley has in mind for V4 (he's currently deeply involved with starting a business with James), but at the end of the day, it's surely about the posts that people make, and the responses to them, that matter, within whatever version. V4 will, I doubt, be some magic panacea which will solve everybody's problems, but simply be an attempt to make things easier.

Tony.

Never surrender.
