ok the animated alice in wonderland scared the crap out of me it was the one disney film I will never let a child watch, you notice she never truly gets out of wonderland she just "wakes up" but what if that's some mind trick???? and I never saw jumanjii BECAUSE I was so scared of the book(I buried it like the kids buried the game) and there was this one movie I used to watch during halloween that I can't remember the name of with an evil cat that if you kill one of it's nine lives it comes after you for yours and his owners mom was a scientist and in the end the hero cures everyone because of some chemicals he spills on a mouse creeped me out like crazy but my parents claim not to remember forcing me through that torture year after year
All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me... You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.
Walt Disney
yay! I wasn't the only one scared of alice in wonderland! =]

Giving up doesn't always mean you're weak.
Sometimes it just means you're strong enough to let go.

14MillionMiles - OMG I totally forgot those pink elephants! I thought they were soo intriguing, it only took me until recently to realise that Dumbo was drunk when he saw those - I never fully understood what was happening there when I used to watch it.
Wow, this thread went nearly two pages before someone mentioned that f*cking whale in Pinocchio. It damn near traumatised me. I'd also like to emphatically agree with whoever mentioned Snow White.
Say what you like about Disney, but you can't argue that if they want to make you feel an emotion, they will make you feel it. If they want to scare you, they'll scare you further out of your pants with hand-drawn animations than any other studio ever could with millions of dollars worth of CGI.
Incidentally, why is the concept of a scary kids' film (or at least a scary scene in a kids' film) so strange? I understand that we can't show them graphic violence or whatever, but I see nothing wrong with exposing a child to a little primal fear at the hands of Disney's dark side.

Kindred spirits, you and I.
Also, I don't think its wrong to expose children to a bit of terror in films either. I think its a kinder way of showing them that there are bad people and things in the world without having to explain the reality of the real life 'baddies'.
oh god the Dark Crystal scared the Sh*t out of me as a kid all I can remember is the skepshes {sp?} and that one guy "dying" in bed..it gave me nightmares for weeks
and I had odd nightmares as it was as a kid.
I just watched it the other day and it still scares me.

I would have rather watched the Last Exorcism
I loved the Secret of Nihm I just hate the "lab rat" thing

The guy who wrote Coraline; Neil Gaiman, has apparently written a number of children's books.
We have a few of them at work. In storage right now, still debating whether they're appropriate for the 3 year olds.
Wolves in the Walls.
A pretty creepy little book to be honest.

Letting it get to you - You know what that's called? Being alive. Best thing there is. Being alive right now that's all that counts. ~ Doctor Who "The Doctors Wife" 06.November.2011
I cant believe no ones mentioned it yet but the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang terrified me my sister used to do his voice and it would make me cry And im not sure of the characters name but the man with the moustache from Pete's dragon, he's like a travelling magician/doctor or something.
Coraline freaks adults out too... for some reason, we decided to put it on after coming in from a *ahem* hectic night, and were all half coming down, and I think everyone except me left the room because they were so freaked out by it! I don't think it's that bad... but then again, none of these films freaked me out, then or now.
Wake me up before I change again
Remind me the story that I won't get insane
Tell me why it's always the same
Explain me the reason why I'm so much in pain.
I kind of like Coraline, probably just because I did a book report on it in elementary school. I don't think I'd show it to a child though. It does get pretty creepy. I mean, moving to a weird place, getting stuck in another world crawling with bugs and rats and snakes, almost having your eyes taken out then having buttons sewn in their place by a spider woman, then meeting ghost children and having to look for their eyes, while trying to save your kidnapped parents?
