I mean RYL often gets scrutinised with the public, I can see an uproar if someone knew people were bringing their children along to meets. It just strikes me as not only, dare I say it, terribly irresponsible, but also just plainly bizarre and I would hate to think of the emotional impact on everyone involved, not just the mother or the child.
I just don't understand how you could justify taking a child, a child, to was is essentially a 'self harm group.' Sorry, but I find the whole thing disturbing and feel very strongly about it.
Are you applying this logic to maternity meets or meets in general? Otherwise, it comes across that you find it disturbing that self harmers could have children. Parents frequently meet, i don't see the difference that the parents were/are self harmers.

RYL meets = drink, drugs, polcie cars, hospitals, raves, etc.
You want to bring a child to that?
I wouldn't bring a child to a 'normal' RYL meet, but your post didn't specify whether your thoughts were directed to maternity meets, regular meets, or both.

Well isn't the idea that a maternity meet would specifically NOT consist of those things...because there will be children present?
Just because general RYL meets, which are often attended by young people who are interested in drinking, drunks, police cars, hospitals and raves, are known for having those things doesn't mean that a different kind of meet, whose whole point is for parents and their children to be present, isn't possible.

As a regular meet attender, especailly the London meets which used to have the worst rep, the only part of that I agree with is the drink bit. & what's wrong with people at a meet wanting to have a few drinks afterwards (aslong as they're overage etc)?
However, it's been 2 years at least since the police were involved with a meet and the member in question has since left. Drugs are not an issue. && where the hell did you get "raves" from?
[sarcasm]Because obviously all we do at meets is drop a few Es or trips and go rave like there's no tomorrow...[/sarcasm]
Fair play. I wont know what you mean without you elaborating, but from what i know maternity meets are fairly calm affairs and self harm is a fact of life.
I don't see a particular issue with maternity meets, personally i wouldn't take our son, but there are other reasons around that; i'd rather organise a 'private' meet. Parents get together all the time, just so happens that parents on this site have a common factor other than their kids and it can be good to be amongst people who have the same issues to contend with.

Roby, I saw your reply, live forum view you are win.
Chels, I suppose we could be a little more mature at meets y'know? I mean really, getting blind drunk generally ends up in one of the group crying & being messy. Then again, you only live once :)
Actually, the last big meet I went to nobody cried! & that was with a lot of drinking...
Thing is, if people want to do what they want to do after a meet, that's their business. Just the same as if they'd met up without RYL being involved. That would also be the point in the evening when most parents would take their kids home, due to bedtimes etc. So there's no problem with drunk people trying to kidnap babies or having vomiting competitions with the little nippers. (Okay, I exaggerate, please don't take me literally!).
Haha. I kid.
Although that is the kind of humour that normally goes on in meets. Shouting "triggered" across the room and generally taking the piss out of all self harmers. We like being oh so mature :) We also grope each other a lot and have sex in the corner of the pub.
But I know that if there was a kid bought to a London meet I wouldn't feel comfortable joking around and having a laugh with my mates. & it's not fair to ask everyone at a meet to behave differently because there is a kid around. So, kids should only be bought to maternity meets. A maternity meet should be a place where you expect kids to be, not a place that is exclusively for kids/mothers.

if maternity meets are open to everyone, and say it ends up with 20 people, two of which have children, isnt that kind of the same as kids being at normal meets?
other than it being advertised differently i guess.

I think its unlikely that it would happen. Kelly and I were talking about that yesterday and although that could potentially happen, Kelly has said that the maternity meets have a completely different atmosphere to normal meets. I personally wouldnt like to stop people who dont have kids from going to meets, but i guess its something that might need to go up for discussion. But i do think its unlikely that there would be a maternity meet where more people without children would attend then those with.
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
