Perhaps I'm isolated somehow from it, but I very rarely see people asking about the abbreviations, actually.
& if someone does ask, then it doesn't take long to explain at all, and I don't mind doing so. I'd much rather have every single query about abbreviations pushed onto me, than have them in the titles like suggested!

Oooo, Live view doesn't like the brackets, it showed your whole post but the bit in the brackets, so when I saw it I was a bit like "WTF?"
I think the problem there is you're using an abbreviation that isn't being defined, thus meaning people are still going to get confused.

I'd be less objectional to option 3, and variations of option 3, yes.
I do think, in a sense, the situation's being made worse than it is and we're sort of making members out to seem thicker than they are - I honestly don't think it's that big a problem that it needs to be in the titles.
Josh, you can't just go adding more options once the poll is already up!
I still don't like it very much because it's kind of like "wait, SD? where did that come from?". I don't feel like there is a connection between the abbreviation and the text it's abbreviating.

Because I have had a lot of stuff going on in my personal [i.e. im skint] & RYL life [eZine/team leader stuff] to get sorted & there's been a million and one posts and I didn't realise a poll or anything was going to be done publicly so I decided to put that particular issue to the back of my priorities.
Fair enough, although maybe we could move the discussion about them being necessary or not back to the thread in the CT board since I think that is where it will ultimately be decided because that is where it was brought up.

Whether or not it's ultimately going to be decided and enforced by the CT is another matter, I still think it's good to get a feel for what the whole community feels about them. Afterall, they will effect every single user rather prominently.
I'm talking about the discussion amongst the 3 of us, because at this point, it's not a community discussion, we're kinda spamming the thread, lol.
