What do you mean by 'spot checking'? *wrinkles forehead*

The situation I'm talking about is when something like this happens.

Member x makes a thread about how they can't find their favortite purple jellybeans any more at the store just down the street, and the world hates them"

Then, a bunch of people post and say "oh hey, you can order them from xxxx website" or "I live near you, and this other store a couple of miles away still has them".

However, the OP is like "Oh it's too far to drive, I miss my jelly beans so much, I can't live without them" or keeps coming up with excuses why there are no other solutions that will work, but keeps complaining.

In those cases I think the OP wants sympathy rather than actual advice, and I've seen several threads deleted when posters give advice but don't offer a lot of sympathy.

Spot checking = when someone searches my username (normally my mum/friends) with pretty much no warning.

And I love the jelly bean thing :]

I have no idea if you are guilty of that or not My explanation is mostly in reply to what Josh said, as a way or explaining better what I meant.

Rawrk, I delete posts too becasue I get siezed by this fear that i'm wasting everyone's time and pissing people off. But I always thank epople for replying!

It's just common courtesy. Even if you dont' like what people have said, "I thank you but disagree" wont kill you. I don't see why it's so hard to say thank you.

I think it's different if you delete posts/threads because you think you're wasting everyone's time or something like that. That has to do with your own insecurities, it's not insulting to all the people who have tried to help you just to have the OP delete the thread because they don't like what people are saying.
