Interstella im not quite sure why you're quoting Luke when I made the comments about Glastonbury...?

Glastonbury Festival is one of the most atmospheric and varied festivals there is, partly because of Eavis and partly because its not too far from Glastonbury itself which is one of the most diverse places there is. As for the lineups I think you'll find they can be pretty impressive, simply because of the reputation its always held, its been going since the 70's although it was called Pilton Fesival then since thats where it actually is, not Glastonbury which is a couple of miles away. Reading and Leeds may have been going technically since then but it didn't truely become Reading Festival until the 90s. The original Isle of White Festival was a true festival would have been amazing but then that was stopped in 1970. So the current Isle of White has only been going since 2002, V Festival...they are all babies compared to Glastonbury.

*Cough*
Sorry I did a bit of research when booking Reading tickets to find out about it, I love Glastonbury a lo.

Because it's the same festival. Then I thought what else is better than glasto this year? The answer is practically every other festival.

Glasto has ALWAYS had a ROCK artist headlining on the saturday, even the first Glasto where T-Rex headlined but Eavis using the wisdom of his arse decided everyone wants to see some american RAPPER headlining the world's biggest ROCK festival. Moron.

I was hoping for LED ZEPPELIN instead I got JAY Z.

I'm keeping my money till Eavis gets some DECENT headliners.

My friend got tickets, and I didn't. We were meant to be going together. So we've decided I might just get a ticket for one day then meet her there.
=/
Sucks.

No camping? It's not a british festival then. You can't have a festival without tents! It's like saying Glasto won't have rain and turn into a mudbath (Of which I'd like to see Jay Z walking around in white sneakers) !

Paramore were at Reading last year and, frankly, were not impressive.
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MUCH ?!
They're great live :)
I'm excited about them because when I went to see them a few months ago, my boyfriend had a panic attack so I had to call an ambulance and leave early, the night did NOT end well.
My brother know's someone who works for See tickets so we got ours before they went on sale, but I still had to go through the drama of trying to get them for my boyfriend (birthday present) and a couple of friends (they're just lazy bastards and aren't the best at using t'internet)
Should be fun :)

Glastonbury is not every other year, they just have a year out every now and again to give the land a chance to recover properly. It was on last year and is this year.

Also, can someone please explain to me what grounds they have for judging a festival based on one or two of its bands? Or in fact their grounds for judging other people's music tastes at all? I don't like metal very much so I'm not going to Download, it doesn't mean I'd go around calling the festival ****. So what if you think Rage/Metallica/Killers are all awful, this is why there is more than one stage. I won't be watching the Killers because I've seen them three times and find them a little dull, but the Manics are on at the same time which is where I'll be. Some people are just so ****ing short-sighted and can't see past their own noses. And to the person suggesting that festivals are a big waste of time, and that some of the people who won't even remember the experience, who are you to judge? Clearly thousands of people have a good time or they wouldn't go back. Festivals wouldn't sell out so quickly if they were so awful. This will be my fourth Reading and I'll still be going next year and the year after, because I love to camp, I love the atmosphere, and I love seeing live music. There are hundreds of bands at Reading/Glastonbury etc. and yet people label them as '****' because of just a couple. Try looking past the top couple and go and watch something you've never heard of before, some of my best discoveries have been that way.

And who gives a toss about Jay-Z, really? Not my thing but the point of Glastonbury is DIVERSITY. And I completely respect that. The Glastonbury headliners this year are quite weak, in my opinion, but I'm still going to go and I'm still going to have an amazing time, because it has 20 odd stages and there's always something to do. Nobody has the right to make such idiotic comments. Why shouldn't Jay-Z headline Glastonbury? He's a successful rap artist, and ultimately it's Michael Eavis' festival: he can book who the heck he wants to.

Anyone who goes to a festival just for the music is kidding themselves, because it's really not just about that. If I were to choose a festival purely based on line-up, most years it would probably end up being V. But I found V to be a horrible, badly organised shambles, and it would take something pretty special to get me to go back. I found the people to be selfish, unfriendly. There was no real neighbourly atmosphere or spirit, the thing I love so much about Reading. V festival is just a big gig that just so happens to be in a field. Having to camp is such an inconvenience to a proportion of its audience that they even sell weekend tickets without camping.

Nobody's going to tailor-make a festival just to suit YOU, and they're going to book bands that a lot of people will want to see. Believe it or not, some of us actually have a ****ing brilliant time. But I guess it's just so much more worthwhile sitting at home.

It's simple. In business you sell a product that the customer wants. This applies to major music festivals. Glastonbury - a ROCK festival (ROCK band T-Rex headlined the first ever Glastonbury and for the past 38 years a ROCK artist has headlined Saturday Pyramid without fail) attracts ROCK fans who are willing to buy tickets. So why do you go against your audience and book a RAP artist?

"Why shouldn't Jay-Z headline Glastonbury?"
Because he's a RAP artist playing a ROCK festival. I don't expect the level of abuse that 50 Cent got at Reading but I do expect a bottle or two to be thrown. He's even scared.

"ultimately it's Michael Eavis' festival: he can book who the heck he wants to."
Yeah, but the fans won't bother turning up. Especially the 'younger' fans he wanted. Applications are down, ticket sales will probably be down, expectation is ZERO, constant negative press and it's only just the beginning of APRIL!

"Nobody's going to tailor-make a festival just to suit YOU"
Gatecrasher Dirty Weekender 08 comes BLOODY CLOSE though! I mean put Daft Punk on the bill and rearrange the bill so I could see every single act and wham the best festival ever in the history of the world.

"they're going to book bands that a lot of people will want to see."
Then why didn't Eavis book Radiohead, Muse, Oasis, LED ****ING ZEPPELIN etc...

Quote:
Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis will personally introduce Jay-Z to the crowd when he plays his headline slot on the Pyramid Stage on June 28.

Eavis explained that he is making the introduction himself to allay fears from the rapper and his manager about playing to an unfamiliar crowd.

Speaking to Glastonburyfestivals.co.uk, the festival boss said: "I was discussing it [the headline slot] with Jay-Z and his manager. They were slightly worried about the audience not being a London or Birmingham urban crowd.

"I said, 'OK, I'll do something that I haven't done for the entire 38 year history of the festival – I'll take you on stage and introduce you to the audience.' And he Jay-Z said, 'Michael, I'll do your show'."
Pathetic
