Claire,in the specific example of the car, we just want/wanted PRs saying 'I dont think this is appropriate' and it would probably have been acted on. Honestly it is that simple.
The difference with a dressed up thread is generally there is much less chance for and prevelence of thinspo pictures :/ which is a bit of a sad truth. With the dressed up thread I do think the focus is more on the clothes and the overall apperence of the person, rather than the size of the person, which is what the WAYWT thread turned into.
See, the car thread didn't really bother me. That's me personally. Although I do think it could have bothered others. When I opened it I wasn't really in the 'place' to be thinking of the bigger picture though. So I would have hoped others might have said something.
I don't think the difference for 'thinspo' is that different, but that probably is just me. If you want to be triggered then you will be by whatever picture you see, or you could look out the window. It's probably easier. I think it needs to be either one of the other, you can't allow one but not the other based on some (what is to me) arbitrary concept of 'focus'.

That's fair enough. Again this is something which shall be brought up in the moderators dicussion of these threads. I do understand where you're comming from. I personally would like all clothes threads removed (though currently we are also looking at possible compromises), but in leaving some we were trying to be more lieniant.

Yeah, I understand that. I would be one of the first to be condemning RYL for banning everything and bubble-wrapping everything. Leniency is good, and I hope that this can be sorted sooner rather than later, because I think the inconsistency can be quite confusing, especially if someone doesn't know about the controversy surrounding this issue.
About this? I think this is the problem we are dealing with. I don't know what more to say because we don't have an answer for it; that's the problem, the lack of middle ground and the want vs trigger-bilitiy of the thread.
Did you have anything you wanted to say about it, or anything specifically you wanted feedback on?
Sorry if I'm off the mark :/
No that was exactly right :) I just wanted another opinion, becasue it seems very black and white to me: either it's there and people just deal with their own triggers as they would in real life and learn about coping mechanisms, or we just don't have any pictures at all an no one learns anything.
I wanted another opinion becasue I'm mindful I'm in that 'mindset' and may not being taking peoples feelings into consideration.

Unfortunatly I also don't agree that we have a group of very very sensitive members; a lot of the PRs we got about that thread said 'I dont usually trigger easily but this picture triggered me' . It was triggering for quite a large percentage of people, both 'sensitive' and not so. Though for the members more succepitble to pictorial triggers i am seriously concerned about what a thread like this one comming back with just a 'take responsibility clause' will do to them. this site should be saf,e first and foremost.
What I meant by 'sensitive' wasn't the typical definition of sensitive, no did I intend it as a bad thing - I should have been more clear. We are sensitive... anyone with a mental health problem is sensitive, more so, than the general population.
this was one of the reasons I took a bit of a break from RYL - it's too focused on trying to keep everyone safe and sound and does pretty much nothing to help people develop appropriate coping mechanisms. As such, i found myself normalizing my eating disorder and self harm habits,a nd finding triggers in every day life near impossible to handle. By saying, 'we can't have clothes thread becasue we may trigger people if there are pictures of thin people' so me says, 'looking at thin people is a bad thing and therefore must be a trigger' and I then start to see things as triggering.
That probably made no sense but my head it all over the place atm - ill family member.

Thin people wern't the problem, though. It was when pictures wer eposted with thinspo poses etc.

It was also the self depricating comments to, the 'omgz,im sooo fat and ugly' they were the worst things about that thread, more triggering than the poses imo.
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

Those comments annoy me at the best of times, but yeah, those + knowing the background of somebody and how they're struggling to eat was painful for me to read, and I was fairly comfortable with a lot of stuff at the time.
MeaCulpa - what you've said makes an awful lot of sense, and for the most part, I would agree with you too. It's just difficult because RYL is has become a 'safe', trigger-free place - which although good at times, can hinder rather than help people. But it's how you tackle that. Pfft. Too complicated.

With the omgz I'm so fat comments to be fair they tend to occur in a lot of picture threads not just the what are you wearing one. I love clothes, I want it back

I think this is what people are generally trying to say. No clothes threads or allow all kinds of clothes threads.
I recall when I used to be news editor there were some articles that had to be labeled as triggering just for mentioning some basic words common in everyday usage. If some people are that triggered by words and pics then maybe they should stay to a confined the specific area dealing with their issues instead of making whole site conform to their problem with a hyper vigilance most people find unnatural.

Yeah I know, but they were mostly in that thread, like they were occuring everyday and in the other threads a.they usually dont b.they usually get reported and deleted.x

I roll over and hold on tightly, and whisper "If they want you, they're gonna have to fight me,"
The "omg i'm so fat and ugly" is so annoying because i really don't think if you realy thought that you would post the picture in the first place. not saying that people don't feel bad about the way they look or whatever, but i would have thought that there is some careful selection of which photo is posted, on the part of the poster.
I wouldn't post a photo of myself if i didn't think i looked okay in it, it doesn't make sense to me to post a photo of myself in which i thought i looked fat and ugly for more people to see!
(That said, i have no problem posting photos where i look utterly ridiculous and i would maybe say "i look really silly" but not in a self-deprecating way, just in a "haw haw haw, let's all laugh at how stupid i look" way.)

Sarah: Give me the child.
Jareth: Sarah beware. I have been generous up till now. I can be cruel.
Sarah: Generous? What have you done that's generous?
Jareth: Everything! Everything you have wanted I have done. You asked the child be taken, I took him. You cowered before me, I was frightening. I have reordered time. I have turned the world upside down, and I have done it all for you! I am exhausted from living up to your expectations of me. Isn't that generous?
give it a go with a few restrictions that could sound something like this
Quote:
1)Self deprecating comments are banned. They remove the point of the thread and general make the thread a nastier place. The thread becomes negative instead of being positive
Ex. omgz,im sooo fat and ugly please make me feel better
2)thinspo poses are banned. They only exist to make you look fatter/thinner and are no place on a recovery website. They make the thread more triggering and competitive.
Ex. A picture where you stick our your collarbone to make you look thinner.
