I'll have a look. I hope that your new meds will help

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I guess so. Remember that if this AD doesn't work then there are many others out there

Hi all,
Reading about your college diffiuclties has prompted me to register and ask for advice really...
My 19 year old son has Aspergers and has been kicked off his college course for an attendance level too low (43% since starting in September). His Aspergers has made integrating and time management (for example - there are lots of other effects!) difficult and these absences were as a direct result. He was escorted off college grounds in front of everyone and is so ashamed. I am extra mad as he received no support despite me going to so many lengths to ensure the help he needed was noted. After complaining to the college, they took 2 weeks to make a decision and now say no, he cant return as he will be too behind to integrate back. He is devastated. This course in sports and football is a lifeline to him and it has taken him so much to get to this stage. I have asked to appeal the decision but time is ticking. Anybody have any advice about how to take this further and what his rights are? Thankyou

Aspergers is very frustrating, I understand you completely. My sister is seven and has borderline aspergers, and I have aspergers as well, except you can't really tell. By 14 I outgrew nearly all the social skills associated with aspergers syndrome, but that happens with about 20% of the aspergers population and it's irritating to not have people take me seriously, but I still have low coordination, sensory issues and the repetitive, obsessive behaviors associated (one sided conversation, on about the same thing, watching the same show or video over and over, ect.) and stimming.

It's really hard to adapt to a world you can't understand, and it's even harder to be diagnosed as an adult. But do take advantage of your diagnosis. See if you can find any support groups or programs to get help. There's also many support sites like this one for aspies. The diagnosis is not a bad one, but spreads you awareness and can get you the help you deserve to adapt and teach yourself skills.

Hi Banana Girl - thanks for the links. very useful - am ploughing through all the info.

The college director has agreed to meet us to consider my son's case so these sites will be invaluable in helping me get clued up. Thanks!

Retrosimplicity - thanks so much for pointing me in the direction of Wrong Planet. It's an amazing website!!

I am swotting up on anything that will help our case for reinstatement at college.

Can I ask 2 things...?
  • Does anyone have a positive experience of CBT counselling in helping with the social anxiety side of Aspergers?
  • Is anyone on any medication to help with this and how is it helping? (eg.sertraline, prozac)

In terms of my social anxiety, I find this website extremely helpful.

Reviews on CBT

Reviews on different medication

I have an older brother who is nineteen and has AS. He is doing a football coaching course in college and is being threatened with being taken off it because of his lack of social interaction. Your son should be recieving help in all the area's he is struggling in due to his AS. If he hasn't been recieving that, then you have every right to appeal and complain the reasoning behind it was the fact he wasn't recieving enough help.

I wish you the best of luck.

I have aspergers and suffer from severe anxiety and due to alot of my behavioural patterns and problems, I've been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. It's difficult because BPD and AS have so many similar symptoms and there is alot of overlap so sometimes I can't really tell what is causing the problem. I had a very bad past and was abused as a child and my mother have severe borderline so I believe that is where my borderline tendencies came from. It really sucks having aspergers ontop of it because with it what little friends I do make, I end up pushing them away because I fear that they are going to abandon me.
